Finance & IT Manager
Introduction
The Finance & IT Manager takes ownership of company's IT function from the Financial Director, and partners with Finance and the wider business to identify and deliver process automation, with specific responsibility for improving how the business reports. The role combines a genuine finance background with a preference for systems, data and technology work.
The role reports to the Financial Director. It works closely with the Financial Manager and the finance team on reporting requirements, and across the business wherever a manual process can be automated. This is a newly created position at our company; there is no direct predecessor to hand over from.
Duties & Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities - IT Ownership
Take over day-to-day ownership of company's IT function from the Financial Director: systems, licensing, vendor relationships and user support escalation.
Own IT vendor relationships and contracts, and act as the internal point of accountability for IT matters.
Maintain IT asset registers and basic IT governance and security hygiene appropriate to the business.
Core Responsibilities - Process Automation
Identify manual, repetitive processes across the business and design or implement automation to remove them.
Partner with department heads to scope automation opportunities and see them through to working solutions.
Maintain a rolling view of automation opportunities identified and improvements delivered.
Core Responsibilities - Finance Reporting
Work with the Financial Manager and finance team to improve the systems and automation behind company's financial and management reporting.
Reduce manual work in recurring reporting packs through better use of data and systems.
Ensure reporting improvements remain accurate and auditable, not just faster.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications & experience
A finance background, for example completed or partially completed articles (SAICA / SAIPA) or a finance-related degree, is important context for this role rather than the destination.
Demonstrable IT, systems or data experience: implementation, administration or development.
Experience automating processes (for example RPA, scripting, workflow tools, or the Microsoft Power Platform) is a strong advantage.
Essential attributes
Genuinely bilingual between finance and IT: able to hold a finance conversation and a systems conversation equally well.
Self-starting builder who ships working automation rather than only proposing it.
Strong communicator who can work with non-technical stakeholders across the business.
Comfortable owning a function with no predecessor to hand over from.
Trustworthy with sensitive financial and business data.
Desirable
Exposure to property or real estate finance and reporting.
Power BI, Power Automate or similar low-code tooling.
SQL or general data-analysis skills.
Prior IT exposure in a small or mid-sized business, rather than only a large corporate IT department.
