Profile match
Jobgether is a Belgian recruitment platform built entirely around remote and flexible work, aggregating openings from thousands of employers that allow work from outside an office. Its matching engine ranks roles against a candidate's skills, seniority and stated preferences on location and flexibility, rather than leaving people to filter a keyword search, and it verifies how genuinely remote each posting is. The company also runs an AI screening layer that shortlists applicants for employers, and publishes research and guidance on distributed work practices alongside the job marketplace itself.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer based in Canada.

This contract role offers the opportunity to support an active construction project within the mining and heavy industrial sectors.

You will provide hands-on engineering expertise across electrical power distribution, instrumentation, controls, testing, and commissioning.

Working closely with construction and project management teams, you will help translate engineering designs into safe, compliant field installations.

The role combines technical problem-solving with field coordination, requiring you to adapt quickly to changing site conditions and construction challenges.

You will collaborate with contractors, engineers, automation specialists, and field personnel to resolve issues and maintain project progress.

Your expertise will directly contribute to the quality, safety, reliability, and successful startup of critical electrical systems.

The position is well suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys a practical, site-oriented environment and technically demanding projects.

Accountabilities

    • Oversee field installation of electrical systems, including MCCs, VFDs, motor wiring, instrumentation, grounding, lighting, and cable tray systems, ensuring work aligns with engineering designs and applicable standards.
    • Review and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, loop drawings, equipment datasheets, and control system architectures to support construction activities.
    • Resolve field technical issues, support field fitting where design conflicts occur, and coordinate construction-driven changes with relevant engineering disciplines.
    • Prepare and review RFIs, field change requests, technical reports, proposals, and other project documentation for stakeholders and project teams.
    • Collaborate with instrumentation and automation specialists to support system integration, testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup activities.
    • Monitor electrical QA/QC activities, verify construction compliance, and contribute to turnover documentation and project closeout.
    • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to contractors and field personnel during construction and post-installation.
    • Conduct electrical risk assessments and hazard identification activities while contributing to project safety planning and risk management.
    • Participate in project meetings and support planning, coordination, commissioning, and resolution of technical or construction-related challenges.
    • Perform field work throughout varying seasonal conditions and take on additional responsibilities as required by the project.
    • Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, along with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
      • 5-8 years of electrical engineering experience, preferably within mining, milling, heavy construction, or other industrial environments.
      • Strong technical knowledge of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, control wiring, grounding, instrumentation, and related field installations.
      • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, loop drawings, equipment documentation, and control system architectures.
      • Experience supporting field fitting, construction-driven design changes, troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning.
      • Familiarity with MSHA, NEC, and NFPA 70E requirements and electrical safety practices, with MSHA 5000-23 certification required.
      • Understanding of mining, milling, maintenance, and industrial operations, with the ability to apply engineering knowledge to practical field conditions.
      • Proficiency with electrical design and engineering software such as AutoCAD and ETAP.
      • Strong communication, documentation, interpersonal, and field coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
      • Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with contractors, engineers, project managers, and technical specialists.
      • Comfortable working in an active construction environment and adapting to evolving site requirements and priorities.
      • Benefits

        • Contract-based opportunity supporting an active construction project.
        • Remote position based in Toronto, Ontario, with a strong field and project-site component.
        • Opportunity to work on technically challenging projects within mining, utilities, and heavy industrial environments.
        • Hands-on exposure to electrical installation, instrumentation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and project delivery.
        • Collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, automation, and project management professionals.
        • Opportunity to contribute directly to project safety, quality, reliability, and successful startup.
        • Contract compensation offered at competitive market rates, based on experience and qualifications.
        • Exposure to complex industrial standards, construction practices, and large-scale project environments.
