Senior Backend Engineer - EST

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer - EST based in India.

This is a fully remote senior engineering opportunity focused on building scalable backend systems for AI-powered enterprise applications.

You will design, develop, and operate high-impact products and features used by customers at significant scale.

The role combines hands-on backend development with architectural thinking, engineering excellence, and customer-focused problem solving.

You will work primarily with Python and modern backend frameworks while contributing to APIs, data systems, real-time services, and AI-driven capabilities.

Collaboration is central to the role, with opportunities to shape system architecture and work closely with engineers and customers.

You will operate in an agile environment where strong computer science fundamentals and thoughtful technical decisions are highly valued.

The position requires working in the EST time zone to provide technical coverage for customers in the United States.

Accountabilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain backend services, products, and features that deliver reliable experiences at scale.
• Translate broadly defined customer and business problems into effective, maintainable technical solutions.
• Develop backend systems primarily using Python, with frameworks such as Django and FastAPI.
• Design and evolve REST APIs, database architectures, data pipelines, and services supporting complex enterprise applications.
• Work with relational and non-relational databases, including technologies such as PostgreSQL, SQL, and MongoDB.
• Contribute to real-time and streaming systems, search and retrieval capabilities, and AI/LLM-backed applications where appropriate.
• Collaborate with engineers and technical stakeholders to define architecture and design solutions for both new and existing systems.
• Drive engineering best practices, code quality, scalability, reliability, testing, and overall engineering excellence.
• Work within an agile development environment to deliver high-quality products and continuously improve development practices.
• Investigate and resolve customer issues, working closely with customers when technical challenges arise.
• Contribute to cloud infrastructure, containerized environments, CI/CD, and modern deployment practices.
• Apply strong problem-solving and technical judgment to balance performance, maintainability, scalability, and delivery requirements.

Requirements

• 3-6 years of professional backend engineering experience, preferably within a high-performing technology environment.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech from a strong engineering institution is preferred.
• Strong professional experience with at least one high-level programming language, with Python strongly preferred.
• Strong hands-on experience with backend development and a solid understanding of large-scale software systems.
• Experience with Django is highly desirable; familiarity with FastAPI is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL, data management, database design, and REST API development.
• Experience with MongoDB, real-time or streaming backends, and technologies such as WebSockets or gRPC is a plus.
• Exposure to LLM-backed search, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or related AI applications is advantageous.
• Some experience applying machine learning, particularly in Natural Language Processing (NLP) contexts, is preferred.
• Strong understanding of core computer science concepts, including algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design, and databases.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to design solutions from broadly defined requirements.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in an agile, cross-functional engineering environment.
• Experience with cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, caching, Redis, Celery, ETL, or infrastructure automation is valuable.
• Ability and willingness to work according to the EST time zone to support US-based customers.
