This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior IMS Systems Programmer (IBM IMS Tools & Database Administration) based in United States.
This senior technical role provides specialized systems programming and database administration support across enterprise IBM z/OS environments. You will help maintain, configure, modernize, and troubleshoot critical IMS systems and related mainframe technologies. The position offers broad exposure to IMS, DB2, CICS, IBM and ISV products, and complex migration initiatives. You will contribute to installations, product conversions, database migrations, and modernization programs while ensuring stable and reliable production environments. The role also involves working directly with customers and technical teams to understand requirements and develop effective solutions. Success requires deep mainframe expertise, strong problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
Accountabilities:
- Provide senior-level IBM IMS systems programming and database administration support, including installation, configuration, deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and migration across enterprise z/OS environments.
- Install, configure, deploy, and maintain IBM and independent software vendor (ISV) mainframe products in alignment with technical requirements, operational standards, and best practices.
- Perform problem determination, technical troubleshooting, systems programming, and production support across z/OS environments, resolving complex issues and recommending effective solutions.
- Support IMS, DB2, and CICS administration and application development environments, helping maintain reliable and efficient mainframe operations.
- Contribute to IMS database migrations, product conversions, modernization initiatives, and the evaluation and implementation of migration tools, utilities, and language-conversion solutions.
- Work directly with customers and cross-functional technical teams to gather requirements, investigate issues, communicate recommendations, and deliver practical technical solutions.
- Develop technical presentations and organize complex technical information into clear, structured materials for customer-facing engagements and technical discussions.
- Senior-level experience in IBM IMS systems programming and IMS database administration within complex enterprise z/OS environments, with strong knowledge of IBM product installation, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and migration processes.
- Strong hands-on expertise with IBM z/OS, IMS, IMS Database Administration, IMS systems programming, IMS tools and utilities, and related mainframe technologies.
- Experience supporting DB2 and CICS administration and application development environments, together with familiarity with ISPF and IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz).
- Working knowledge of mainframe programming languages and technologies such as COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, C/C++, REXX, and FastRexx, as well as tools including IBM File Manager, BMC File-AID, CA Broadcom File Master, CA Broadcom PDSMAN, and Macro4 InSync.
- Experience with z/OS application development, mainframe migration and conversion tools, and the ability to evaluate technical approaches for complex modernization initiatives.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-determination, and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate customer requirements into practical technical recommendations.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, strong customer-facing capabilities, and the ability to collaborate professionally with diverse technical and business stakeholders; a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Competitive contract compensation ranging from $75 to $100 per hour, with the actual rate determined by relevant skills, training, experience, education, market conditions, and applicable certifications or licenses.
