Senior Software Development Engineer - Mobile

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer - Mobile based in Canada.

This is a senior mobile engineering opportunity focused on building reliable, high-performing applications that simplify payroll for small businesses across Canada.

You will own mobile features end to end across iOS and Android, from architecture and development through testing, deployment, and optimization.

The role offers significant influence over mobile architecture, engineering practices, and the evolution of cross-platform development workflows.

You will work closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams to turn customer and business needs into scalable mobile experiences.

You will also mentor other developers and help raise engineering standards across testing, CI/CD, performance, and AI-assisted development.

Accountabilities

• Own the complete mobile development lifecycle for new features across iOS and Android, ensuring high standards for code quality, maintainability, performance, reliability, and test coverage.
• Design, develop, and optimize cross-platform mobile applications using React Native and modern JavaScript/TypeScript practices.
• Set up, manage, and continuously improve mobile CI/CD pipelines, including automated builds, releases, and over-the-air update workflows.
• Manage and support application submissions and releases through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
• Implement proactive monitoring, crash analytics, and performance optimization practices, responding quickly to production incidents and reliability issues.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams to align technical solutions with customer needs, product objectives, and business priorities.
• Contribute to mobile architecture decisions covering state management, navigation, performance patterns, scalability, and maintainability.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers on React Native development, performance optimization, deployment practices, testing, and AI-assisted engineering.
• Evaluate and introduce new mobile libraries, development techniques, and AI-powered tools that can improve engineering productivity and application quality.
• Drive improvements to automated testing, CI/CD workflows, AI-assisted code generation, and other mobile engineering practices.
• Communicate technical concepts clearly and contribute constructively to architectural and product discussions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional mobile development experience, with a demonstrated history of delivering production-grade mobile applications.
• Strong hands-on expertise with React Native and advanced JavaScript/TypeScript development for performant cross-platform iOS and Android applications.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Strong understanding of iOS and Android application deployment, release management, and app store submission processes.
• Solid understanding of mobile application architecture, performance optimization, testing, and maintainable development practices.
• Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Backend Engineering.
• Strong problem-solving abilities with the confidence to tackle complex technical challenges and make sound engineering decisions.
• Experience with AI-powered development or productivity tools, including AI-assisted code generation or automated UI testing, is an advantage.
• Experience mentoring or coaching other developers and communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is preferred.
