Senior Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer based in India.

This is a senior technical leadership opportunity focused on shaping large-scale software systems and platform architecture.

You will influence engineering strategy across multiple teams and organizational domains while remaining close to complex technical challenges.

The role combines architecture, distributed systems, cloud engineering, modernization, reliability, and developer productivity.

You will help introduce AI-assisted engineering practices and identify new ways to improve development effectiveness and business outcomes.

As a technical leader, you will drive alignment on complex initiatives without relying on direct reporting authority.

You will also mentor senior engineers and help establish engineering practices that promote scalability, security, reliability, and operational excellence.

This position is ideal for an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous problems and turning long-term technical strategy into measurable results.

Accountabilities:

• Lead the design, evolution, and modernization of large-scale distributed systems and platform architectures, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and extensibility.
• Define and communicate long-term technical strategy across multiple engineering teams, aligning architectural decisions with product and business objectives.
• Drive the adoption of AI-assisted development practices and AI-enabled capabilities to improve engineering productivity, innovation, and measurable business outcomes.
• Lead complex, cross-functional technical initiatives spanning multiple systems, teams, and organizational domains.
• Identify systemic technical risks and develop strategies to mitigate them while improving reliability, performance, observability, and operational maturity.
• Establish and execute strategies for reducing technical debt, modernizing legacy systems, and improving overall platform architecture.
• Design and promote shared platform capabilities, services, tooling, and engineering practices that improve developer productivity and consistency.
• Provide technical direction in complex and ambiguous environments, influencing stakeholders and driving alignment without direct authority.
• Mentor senior and staff-level engineers, helping strengthen technical capabilities, architectural thinking, and engineering practices.
• Champion engineering excellence, continuous improvement, high-quality system design, and sustainable technical decision-making.
• Contribute hands-on technical expertise to architecture, cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and critical engineering initiatives when required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including demonstrated ownership of technical strategy and architecture across multiple teams or organizational domains.
• Deep experience designing, building, and evolving large-scale distributed systems, platform architectures, and cloud-based production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including cloud-native architecture, scalability, reliability, security, and cost optimization.
• Proven ability to navigate complex and ambiguous technical environments, influence senior stakeholders, and drive execution across teams without direct reporting authority.
• Experience with .NET full-stack and API development across frontend and backend technologies is highly valuable, along with proficiency in Rust, C#, and/or JavaScript.
• Extensive knowledge of microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, serverless architectures, and infrastructure-as-code, including tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or Bicep.
• Strong expertise in observability, monitoring, distributed tracing, incident response, reliability engineering, and operational excellence.
• Experience with modern authentication and authorization technologies, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SAML, as well as secure coding and security architecture practices.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, progressive deployment strategies, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases and understanding the architectural considerations involved in designing systems at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to improve engineering productivity, lead technical modernization, develop platform capabilities, and drive AI adoption across multiple teams.
• Excellent communication and technical leadership skills, with the ability to explain complex architectural decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong mentoring, collaboration, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities, combined with a focus on long-term technical quality and business impact.
