Technical Lead - OpenBlue CUPO Systems Specialist

In this role, you will help deliver OpenBlue Central Utility Plant solutions that support reliable, efficient central utilities for critical environments such as universities, hospitals, airports, office towers, and data centers.

Role Overview

• Based in Pune, this position leads the engineering, integration, commissioning, and optimization of OpenBlue CUP solutions for district energy and chiller plants globally. You will serve as the technical lead for project execution, aligning delivery with customer objectives, schedules, and performance goals while helping drive energy savings, reduced water use, and lower carbon impact.
• Key Responsibilities
• Lead the engineering and project execution of OpenBlue Central Utility Plant solutions from design through closeout.
• Analyze site and operational data to build accurate energy models using CUPO software and identify optimization opportunities.
• Prepare drawings, scopes of work, and recommissioning requirements for sensors, meters, and controls needed to make a plant CUP-ready.
• Oversee system design, programming, installation coordination, commissioning, performance validation, and project closeout activities.
• Create and execute integration test plans with controls service contractors to verify bidirectional data and command flow between CPO and the plant automation system.
• Oversee point mapping and local plant automation programming to support smooth transitions between operating modes.
• Validate system functionality, analyze command dispatch results, and resolve issues throughout commissioning and startup.
• Collaborate with customers, plant operators, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineering team members, and train operators and end users on OpenBlue CUP solutions.
• Maintain strong ethics, quality, safety, and compliance with Johnson Controls policies and applicable regulations.
• How You Will Do It
• Own project outcomes with accountability, safety, and integrity while keeping delivery aligned to scope, schedule, and customer expectations.
• Stay close to the work by reviewing plant data, point maps, and field results to identify practical optimization actions and remove obstacles quickly.
• Improve every day through structured test plans, candid troubleshooting, and continuous refinement of engineering standards and methods.
• Win as one team by working closely with controls contractors, project managers, operators, and other engineering disciplines.
• Lead regular progress meetings, document decisions clearly, and keep stakeholders informed of risks, changes, and commissioning status.
• Use Microsoft Project or similar tools to support planning, coordination, and milestone tracking.
• Translate technical findings into clear training and support so plant teams can confidently operate the CUP solution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of experience in building automation controls engineering, programming, and commissioning.
• Strong expertise in integrating building systems using industry-standard protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
• Proven experience designing, implementing, and commissioning central utility plant control systems, including automation startup and commissioning for at least five live critical facility projects.
• Hands-on experience in energy modeling, chiller plant optimization, data analytics, and performance assessment using software tools.
• Demonstrated ability to establish engineering standards and provide technical leadership to engineering teams.
• Strong project management and stakeholder communication skills, with experience using Microsoft Project or similar tools.
• Prior experience supervising and mentoring technical or engineering staff.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel up to 50%, including international assignments.

Nice to Have

• Master’s degree or Professional Engineer registration.

• Strong understanding of energy modeling and data analytics.

• Strong background in the Metasys suite of tools.

• Programming capability for multiple makes and models of building automation systems and PLC systems.
