A European technology group is looking for aProgramme Lead to establish and lead its Boot Camp programme in Malta. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who is passionate about developing talent, sharing technical knowledge and building high-quality software.
The programme aims to turn promising local developers into skilled product engineers through hands-on experience working on real projects alongside an established international team.
The Role
You will lead the programme in Malta, working closely with a prototyping team based in Germany. You will identify suitable development tasks, break them down for junior engineers, guide their implementation and ensure all work meets the group's engineering standards before integration.
Alongside your technical responsibilities, you will build the programme from the ground up, overseeing candidate selection, onboarding, training, mentoring and individual development. Your success will be measured not only by the quality of the work delivered, but also by how much the engineers in your cohort grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and scope development work: Select suitable tasks from the prototyping team's backlog and break them down into clear, achievable assignments while maintaining technical quality.
- Oversee technical delivery: Ensure all work follows established engineering conventions, coding standards, testing practices and deployment requirements.
- Review and integrate code: Take ownership of code reviews and ensure deliverables meet the same quality standards as the wider engineering team.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers: Provide structured feedback, pair programming, technical guidance and ongoing performance support.
- Prepare participants for future roles: Help engineers develop the practical skills and product experience needed to succeed in the group's regular recruitment process.
- Build the programme: Establish selection criteria, onboarding processes, training resources and a framework for tracking individual development.
- Build local relationships: Engage with universities, MCAST and the wider Maltese technology community to attract promising candidates and raise awareness of the programme.
