The Senior Business Systems Developer provides hands-on technical ownership of business and manufacturing applications for LCM’s operating companies at the Langley campus. This is a fully in-office position where you will develop, configure, support and improve the systems connecting order processing, production, quality, inventory and accounting, including the import files ERP and MES send to production equipment.
In this role, you will personally investigate faults, read and change codes, trace transactions and generated data files, implement controlled fixes and validate results with users. A significant part of the work is following an issue from its originating ERP data through to the production or financial outcome.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manufacturing systems and production data
Ensure ERP and MES systems generate complete, accurate import files for production equipment. When a file is missing, incorrect or rejected, trace the cause through product configuration, SQL data, routing rules and file generation, and correct it.
Validate identifiers, dimensions, units, rounding, material mappings, labels and production states in generated files. Distinguish data or application faults from equipment-side problems and hand the latter to Engineering with clear evidence.
Work with operators, Operations, Engineering, IT and vendors to restore reliable processing and validate downstream tracking and quality results. Agree import file formats with Engineering; machine integration, equipment configuration and controls remain Engineering responsibilities.
Software development and data integration
Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, application code, APIs, file converters and automated workflows. Use C#/.NET and appropriate scripting tools to support both packaged applications and custom solutions.
Maintain interface contracts, mappings, validation, error handling, logging and recovery procedures. Prevent duplicate or incomplete processing, reconcile results and use secure configuration and appropriate access controls.
Maintain reports, labels and data-processing utilities. Investigate performance, failed jobs, file locks, service configuration and authentication issues, and remove recurring causes of manual intervention.
Financial and operational business systems
Work with business teams to configure and enhance ERP and MES functionality as operational needs evolve, including setting up workflows, production parameters, routing rules and application settings. Test changes with users, document configurations and support rollout. Business owners approve changes to business rules.
Support workflows spanning purchasing, inventory, production, costing, shipping, invoicing and reconciliation. Trace how operational transactions affect accounting records across companies.
Maintain and troubleshoot integrations with ERP platforms, tax services and related business applications. Implement approved corrections with Finance, preserving data integrity and auditability; financial policy, master-data stewardship and transaction approvals remain with the business owners.
Operational ownership
Prioritize incidents by production and business impact, communicate progress and retain ownership of diagnosis and validation through recovery or an agreed accountable handoff.
Test changes in appropriate environments, use version control, document dependencies and plan deployments and rollback. Preserve production settings and confirm the business and downstream results with affected users.
Maintain runbooks, interface maps, configuration records and support documentation. Train users, share knowledge and establish practical backup support for critical applications. Coordinate platform, network and security work with the relevant specialists, and equipment-side work with Engineering.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
Demonstrated hands-on development and support of business applications and integrations in a manufacturing environment. Manufacturing experience is required.
Strong SQL Server and T-SQL skills, including queries, stored procedures, data validation and performance investigation, together with practical application development and debugging capability.
Experience building or maintaining business-system integrations using APIs, structured files or automated data exchange. Ability to investigate unfamiliar code and learn the languages and tools used in our environment.
Hands-on experience configuring and enhancing ERP or MES applications in a manufacturing environment, with the ability to trace orders, materials, quantities, routing, production states and outcomes across systems.
Ability to trace operational transactions into inventory, costing, invoicing and reconciliation processes, working with Finance and Operations to confirm business rules and validate results.
Evidence-led troubleshooting, safe testing and change control, clear technical documentation, and effective communication with operators, business users, technical teams and vendors.
Experience across production MES systems, ERP platforms, financial or tax integrations, multi-company environments and production file generation from ERP or MES data. Prior experience with our specific software products is not required.
C#/.NET, Python, legacy VB.NET, Excel and COM integration, SSRS or Crystal Reports, Windows services, scheduled tasks, IIS, Git and deployment automation. Candidates are not expected to have used every technology listed.
Experience in glass fabrication, extrusion or related manufacturing processes is an asset. Depth in product configuration, routing, quality, traceability, production costing or accounting reconciliation is valuable; familiarity with every process is not required.
What success looks like:
Reliable, accurate processing from business transactions to production and accounting outcomes, with fewer recurring failures and faster, well-evidenced recovery.
Useful improvements delivered through tested, reversible changes, with clear documentation and shared knowledge that make critical systems supportable by more than one person.
