Manulife is a Canadian insurance and asset management group founded in Toronto in 1887, with the first Canadian prime minister as its founding president. It sells life and health insurance, annuities and retirement products in Canada, the United States under the John Hancock brand and across a dozen Asian markets, and runs Manulife Investment Management as a global asset manager for institutional and retail clients. Headquartered in Toronto and listed in Toronto, New York and Hong Kong, it earns a growing share of its profit in Asia and has been reducing its exposure to legacy long-term care liabilities through reinsurance transactions.

Join our Global Technology & Cyber Security PMO team as an IT Project Manager.

The successful candidate brings strong experience delivering enterprise-scale IT projects, excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, and a passion for driving results while navigating complexity and change.

This role manages and coordinates business and technical projects through all phases of initiation, development, and implementation. Responsibilities may be adjusted as business needs evolve.

Position Responsibilities:

Project Delivery & Execution

  • Lead end-to-end execution of technical and business projects, from business case development through implementation and closure.

  • Manage projects primarily using waterfall methodologies, while incorporating Agile practices where appropriate.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and aligned with business objectives.

  • Define, document, and manage complex projects with interdependencies.

Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Coordinate with technology teams, application owners, vendors, business partners, and external consultants.

  • Act as a liaison between project teams, sponsors, and client groups.

  • Establish clear roles, expectations, goals, and resource requirements for project teams.

  • Influence and negotiate with stakeholders without formal authority.

Risk, Financial & Governance Management

  • Identify, analyze, mitigate, document, and control project risks and issues; escalate when appropriate.

  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial tracking.

  • Ensure adherence to Manulife’s global project governance framework, standards, and controls.

Communication & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide regular, clear, and concise communication to project teams, stakeholders, sponsors, and senior management.

  • Present complex information in a clear and actionable manner.

  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery methods, tools, and processes.

  • Contribute positively to team success.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years+ of experience in Project Management, managing IT initiatives.

  • Proven experience delivering IT, network infrastructure, and security projects.

  • Strong understanding of project risk, issue management, and delivery transparency.

  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage change and operate effectively in a complex, matrixed environment.

  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate across business and technology teams.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present to senior leadership.

  • Strong financial acumen, including budget management and understanding business drivers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University degree and/or equivalent professional experience.

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification

  • CSM (Certified Scrum Master) or Agile certification

  • Experience working within large enterprise or financial services environments

Key Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of how technology supports enterprise and business strategy.

  • Awareness of the full technology stack and IT delivery lifecycle.

  • Strategic thinking with consideration for both short- and long-term outcomes.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Continuous learner with a willingness to seek coaching and advanced training.

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams and functions.

When you join our team:

  • We’ll empower you to learn and grow the career you want.

  • We’ll recognize and support you in a flexible environment where well-being and inclusion are more than just words.

  • As part of our global team, we’ll support you in shaping the future you want to see.
