Junior Software Developer - Research and Development

Maverick Power is hiring a Junior Software Developer to build and maintain software supporting its internal operations and customer-facing products. The role works with developers and cross-functional teams on full-stack development, cloud applications, APIs, databases, automation, and AI-powered software.

Responsibilities

• Build user-facing features with React and Next.js
• Write clean, type-safe code in TypeScript across frontend and backend
• Implement APIs and server-side logic (e.g., Next.js route handlers/serverless)
• Model, query, and migrate data using Prisma
• Collaborate on database design and performance improvements
• Work with AWS services such as S3, CloudFront, Lambda, and managed databases (as needed)
• Fix bugs, improve performance, and enhance accessibility and UX quality
• Contribute tests and help maintain reliable CI/CD pipelines
• Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, standups, and demos
• Document technical decisions and communicate progress clearly with the team

Skills

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar (or equivalent experience)
• Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript and building web apps
• Basic experience with React (components, state, effects) and interest in Next.js patterns (routing, SSR/SSG, server components)
• Understanding of API concepts (REST, JSON), and comfort learning databases/ORMs (Prisma)
• Strong communication, curiosity, and willingness to ask questions early
• Personal projects with Next.js and TypeScript
• Any experience with Prisma and relational database
• Exposure to AWS (even via coursework or tutorials)
• Experience with testing (Jest/Vitest/Playwright/Cypress)
• Familiarity with authentication/authorization basics and web security fundamentals
