• Project Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Technical Direction Agent (TDA)

• Task Nuclear Survivability

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Using established tools to model nuclear environments
• Explore the concepts in radiation transport effects in materials
• Conduct radiation transport modeling using third-party software/physics codes
• Software modeling and simulation of strategic missile defense systems
• Monte Carlo simulations
• Software and documentation organization to promote team collaboration and user serviceability
• Development of visualization products for effective presentation of complex topics (e.g. charts, images, and videos)

• Briefing slide design and oration narrative techniques to effectively communicate complex topics to an intended audience

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program in physics or nuclear engineering or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
• Sustained excellence in academic performance
• Knowledge of radiation interactions with matter
• Knowledge of MATLAB/Python
• Sustained excellence in academic performance
• High level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges
• This position has an onsite requirement of 4 days per week minimum

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hard skills/Tools: MATLAB, Python, or complementary programming language
• Academic/Statistics: Monte Carlo simulation, or statistical and stochastic concepts
• Academic/Mathematics: Calculus, linear algebra, or differential equations
• Academic/Engineering: Newtonian physics (statics, dynamics) or Galilean physics (coordinate transformation, orbital mechanics), nuclear physics (beta, gamma, x-ray, neutron radiation and concepts of radioactive decay), radiation transport modeling
• Knowledge of radiation transport modeling theory, Monte Carlo and/or deterministic
• Experience and/or familiarity with the following engineering software/tools: MCNP, CEPXS, IRENE, SPIET-D, ASSIST

Clearance: In addition to passing MITRE’s employment background check, you may be submitted for a U.S. Government Security clearance. This is determined by the Department of Defense’s adjudicative guidelines for receiving a clearance, to include U.S. citizenship. Other jobs may require vetting for various levels of agency public trust, fitness, suitability, controlled access, and special programs access determination consistent with the work program to which you are assigned.

$46,500 - $58,000 - $69,500 Annual
