What you'll do:
- Investigate, research, and analyse customer activity including transaction monitoring system alerts and manual escalations to identify potential suspicious activity related to financial crime, making recommendations on Suspicious Transaction Reporting (STR) to relevant authorities.
- Prepare STRs and other required reports in accordance with local regulatory guidelines and within specified timeframes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Document investigation results thoroughly for both reportable and non-reportable cases in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of record-keeping.
- Communicate effectively with Branch and Department Heads as well as other stakeholders to support case research and investigations, fostering collaborative relationships across functions.
- Maintain appropriate records and files to ensure efficient, consistent, and auditable investigation reporting processes that meet regulatory expectations.
- Provide timely and accurate information to Team Lead and Management to support decision-making processes, including escalating investigation issues or programme gaps when necessary.
- Offer insights and recommendations aimed at enhancing investigation quality and improving process efficiency through thoughtful analysis and feedback.
- Support or lead financial crime-related projects and initiatives by coordinating stakeholders, tracking deliverables, managing timelines, and ensuring effective implementation of solutions.
- Prepare regular management reports detailing investigation outcomes, trends, risks identified, and perform other ad hoc duties as assigned by leadership.
What you bring:
- Minimum five years’ relevant experience in financial crime compliance gained within a reputable organisation; preferably with direct exposure to investigative work. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification required; AAMLP accreditation mandatory while CAMS/CAMLP or other recognised industry accreditations considered advantageous.
- Broad understanding of banking operations as well as financial crime risk within the banking sector coupled with familiarity with AML transaction monitoring practices.
- Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements including HKMA and JFIU expectations relating to transaction monitoring and suspicious transaction reporting procedures.
- Experience conducting investigations involving fraud, money laundering or other forms of financial crimes within a regulated environment such as a financial services firm or consultancy.
- Exceptional attention to detail demonstrated through proven ability to conduct thorough research, identify patterns indicative of financial crime activity, produce comprehensive documentation for investigations.
- Strong team player with a track record of building effective working relationships across functions through collaborative communication methods.
- Excellent communication skills enabling engagement with senior stakeholders during complex investigations or project initiatives.
- Self-motivated individual willing to take ownership of assigned matters while following through diligently until quality outcomes are delivered within expected timeframes.
- Project management experience including stakeholder coordination, timeline management, structured execution of initiatives preferred; ability to demonstrate leadership qualities such as sound judgement proactive communication collaboration constructive challenge when appropriate; ability to operate with urgency prioritise work effectively structured logical approach proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
