Moog Commercial Aircraft Group is seeking a Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical) to develop and improve commercial flight control products. In this role, you will work with engineering teams to support new product introduction (NPI) and product improvement initiatives, taking designs from concept through prototype testing, manufacture, and product handover. You will report to the Commercial Engineering Manager (Design) and be based at either the Wolverhampton or Tewkesbury Moog site.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will collaborate cross-functionally with project, systems, stress, manufacturing, supply chain, and product engineering teams to deliver innovative and robust engineering solutions. You will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and ensure designs meet customer requirements, regulatory expectations, quality standards, cost targets, and project schedules.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will make critical contributions by holding responsibility for:

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for rotating equipment and hydraulic systems from concept through production release.
  • Provide technical ownership of design deliverables, ensuring quality, schedule, and performance objectives are achieved.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers while supporting the development of engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with project, systems, and stress engineering teams to ensure designs meet customer performance, airworthiness, and regulatory requirements.
  • Create and review detailed technical drawings and 3D CAD models suitable for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Apply GD&T principles and perform tolerance analysis to validate fit, function, and manufacturability.
  • Support DFMEA activities, identify technical risks, and develop mitigation strategies throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Present design concepts, development progress, and technical solutions to customers and key stakeholders.
  • Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, and product engineering teams to deliver robust and producible product designs.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting activities, and design refinements based on test results.
  • Generate and maintain engineering documentation including bills of materials (BOMs), revision records, and engineering change notices (ECNs).
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and product performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to define components, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
  • Support occasional international travel as required by project and customer needs.

To be considered for the Senior Design Engineer position, here's what you'll typically bring with you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Significant experience in mechanical product design and development.
  • Experience designing complex mechanical systems, preferably within aerospace or another highly regulated industry.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software, ideally Siemens NX, and PLM/PDM tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information to customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience leading projects or providing technical leadership to engineering teams is preferred.

What We Offer:

  • Flexible benefits package and development opportunities to support career progression.
  • 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays).
  • Private medical insurance, mental health support, and financial wellbeing resources.
  • Generous life assurance and company pension contribution (from 6%).
  • Employee share options, bonus opportunity free onsite parking, and EV charging.
