Hybrid - Buffalo, NYAs the Senior Systems Engineer - Virtualization & Automation, you will be responsible for the research, design, automation, implementation, and lifecycle management of Moog's global virtualization, server, storage, and data protection platforms.
You will play a key role in defining the future direction of Moog's virtualization strategy, including the evaluation, modernization, and migration of enterprise virtualization platforms. The successful candidate will combine strong infrastructure engineering expertise with a passion for automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to improve operational efficiency, scalability, and reliability across the global environment.
In addition to delivering infrastructure projects, you will help drive automation initiatives, develop technical standards, ensure compliance with security requirements, and contribute to the long-term infrastructure roadmap.
You will work on a hybrid schedule at our East Aurora, NY facility or our Blacksburg, VA facility.
To be considered for the Senior Systems Engineer role, here’s what you’ll typically need to bring with you:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure solutions within complex global environments.
Significant experience with enterprise virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere and related technologies.
Strong understanding of enterprise hardware architectures and infrastructure technologies, including compute, storage, networking, and data center components, with the ability to assess design, performance, reliability, and lifecycle considerations.
Experience evaluating, deploying, or supporting alternative virtualization platforms such as Nutanix AHV, Microsoft Hyper-V, OpenShift Virtualization, or similar technologies is desirable.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), preferably Terraform.
Experience developing automation solutions using PowerShell, Ansible, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of server, disaster recovery, and infrastructure resiliency concepts.
Experience integrating infrastructure platforms through APIs and automation workflows.
Security-focused mindset with experience implementing secure infrastructure architectures and supporting recovery strategies.
Understanding of IT Service Management and Agile methodologies (ITIL, SAFe, or equivalent).
Excellent communication, collaboration, documentation, and problem-solving skills
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will:
Work within a diverse, international engineering team to deliver innovative, scalable, and reliable infrastructure solutions.
Lead the design, implementation, modernization, and lifecycle management of enterprise virtualization platforms, server infrastructure, storage systems, and backup technologies.
Evaluate virtualization platform strategy and future-state architecture, including assessment of emerging technologies and alternative virtualization solutions.
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and related technologies to standardize and automate infrastructure deployment and management.
Design and implement automation solutions using PowerShell, Ansible, APIs, and other automation frameworks to reduce manual operational activities.
Manage and execute infrastructure projects from architecture and design through implementation and transition to operations.
Develop reusable infrastructure modules, templates, and standards that improve consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Ensure infrastructure platforms can scale to meet future business demands and support global growth initiatives.
Collaborate closely with storage, network, security, and operations teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
Ensure appropriate security controls, governance standards, and compliance requirements are incorporated into infrastructure designs.
Support business continuity and disaster recovery strategies through resilient architecture, backup, replication, and recovery solutions.
Provide technical leadership and guidance during infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and transformation initiatives.
Participate in the development of enterprise infrastructure standards, roadmaps, and strategic planning activities.
Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to resolve complex infrastructure challenges.

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
