The Accountant, Mexico is an individual contributor within the LATAM International Networks & Direct-to-Consumer Finance and Controllership team and reports to the Finance Manger. The role applies well-developed accounting and professional expertise to support the quality and timeliness of accounting services for the Mexico legal entity. Working with limited supervision on established activities, the Accountant maintains accurate books and records, prepares financial analyses and complex reconciliations, supports close and reporting requirements, and helps ensure compliance with NBCUniversal policies, internal controls, and local statutory and tax requirements. The role collaborates with regional and cross-functional stakeholders, independently resolves routine matters, seeks guidance on complex issues, and contributes practical ideas that improve service delivery and accounting processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the preparation and timely completion of assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for the Mexico legal entities, including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, payroll-related entries, cash activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other general ledger transactions.
- Prepare and post journal entries with complete support and accurate use of the general ledger account, legal entity, business unit, cost center, profit center, and functional area, applying established financial master-data structures.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, meeting agreed timelines and escalating issues that may affect the quality or timeliness of reporting.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules; investigate aged, unusual, or unsupported balances; identify root causes; and propose practical resolutions.
- Analyze income statement and balance sheet activity, perform actual-to-budget and actual-to-forecast variance analysis, and communicate recurring trends, risks, and opportunities to the manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Manage assigned intercompany activities, including invoicing, settlements, confirmations, reconciliations, and resolution of differences with regional and global counterparties.
- Apply a good working understanding of NBCUniversal accounting, Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, and Record-to-Report policies and procedures when executing and reviewing assigned activities.
- Use Excel and financial reporting tools to interrogate data, complete recurring and ad hoc data requests with limited guidance, maintain data integrity, and present clear conclusions.
- Coordinate assigned accounts payable and vendor activities, including invoice validation, coding, approval routing, payment follow-up, vendor inquiries, and monitoring of open or aged items.
- Partner with Tax and external advisors to support Mexico statutory and tax compliance, VAT reporting and refund processes, local filings, and the preparation of accurate supporting schedules.
- Support internal and external audits, SOX requirements, and other compliance reviews by preparing audit schedules, maintaining clear documentation, and responding to requests within established deadlines.
- Build constructive stakeholder relationships, anticipate routine service needs, communicate progress and issues clearly, and coordinate people and information required to deliver results.
- Document processes, identify workflow bottlenecks or control gaps, propose alternative approaches, and collaborate with others to implement and assess practical process improvements.
- Share knowledge and provide task-level training or guidance to colleagues when appropriate, while actively seeking feedback and support on unfamiliar or complex matters.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- At least 2 years of progressive experience in accounting, controllership, audit, or a related finance discipline.
- Well-developed knowledge of general ledger accounting, period-end close, journal entries, accruals, accounts payable, intercompany accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements, prepare complex reconciliations, investigate variances, and form clear, supportable conclusions.
- Good understanding of accounting and finance operating processes, including Procure-to-Pay, Order-to-Cash, and Record-to-Report.
- Experience supporting Mexico legal entities, with exposure to local statutory accounting, tax, VAT, and audit requirements strongly preferred.
- Experience with SAP ECC, S/4HANA, or a comparable general ledger or ERP environment, together with familiarity with consolidation and reporting systems.
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel for accounting analysis and reporting, with strong working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
- Understanding and application of financial master-data structures, including chart of accounts, business units, profit centers, and functional reporting dimensions.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills across local, regional, and global stakeholders.
- Ability to complete most assigned responsibilities independently, manage competing deadlines, maintain a high standard of accuracy, and proactively seek advice on complex matters.
