Mechanical Design Engineer

You'll be involved in designing, improving, and supporting gearbox and geared drive solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver world-class engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop gearbox and gear system components and assemblies
• Perform detailed mechanical calculations and engineering analysis
• Generate and review manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
• Support gearbox upgrades, refurbishments, and new product development initiatives
• Conduct root cause and failure analysis on mechanical components
• Liaise with manufacturing, quality, sales, and service teams to ensure successful project execution
• Provide technical support to customers and internal stakeholders
• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and best practices

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical design engineering
• Proven experience working with gearboxes, geared drives, or power transmission systems
• Strong understanding of gear design principles, bearings, shafts, lubrication systems, and rotating equipment
• Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar packages
• Experience conducting engineering calculations and mechanical analysis
• Excellent problem-solving and technical communication skills

Advantageous Experience

• Experience within mining, heavy industrial, manufacturing, or power generation environments
• Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA)
• Knowledge of gearbox refurbishment, maintenance, and reliability engineering
• Registration or progress toward professional registration with ECSA
