Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) ASOSU Student Advisory Board Member At-Large for the ASOSU at Oregon State University (OSU).

The ASOSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT Student Advisory Board is responsible for supporting the ASOSU Student Government through the incidental fee process. This unit is astudent-centered department at OSU that fosters student engagement through employment, programming, legislation, and through shared dialogue and advisory recommendations with the Student Advisory Board.

The ASOSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT Student Advisory Board shall serve the following purposes for the benefit of students of Oregon State University:

  • Review and make recommendations regarding the proposed annual budget of the ASOSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT unit to the Budget Manager.

  • Recommend the student fee amount required to support the ASOSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT annual budget request to ASOSU through the incidental fee process.

  • Review unit programs and services to make advisory recommendations to staff to support and enhance the success of OSU students.

  • Serve as a liaison between the ASOSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT units and ASOSU through the Student Fee Committee.

The Student Advisory Board is made up of representatives from each of those units as well as At-Large positions. These positions are tasked with representing the broader student body’s interest when reviewing and evaluating the ASOSU STUDENT GOVERNMENT programs and services and making the fee recommendation.

Position Duties

  • Attend all SAB meetings

    • Fall meetings typically occur weekly for approximately one hour.

    • Winter meetings typically occur bi-weekly for approximately one hour.

    • Spring meetings typically occur monthly for approximately one hour.

    • Be proactive about communicating your availability; find a suitable proxy when you are not available to attend meetings for a prolonged period of time.

  • Contribute meaningfully to discussions, with a focus on contributing the perspective of the student body at large, beyond personal insights and experiences.

  • Vote on discussion items and resolutions, taking into account the perspectives discussed in SAB meetings as well as the interests of the student body at large.

  • Review documents and provide feedback for the good of the advisory board.

  • Regularly check and respond to email, Teams messages, and other electronic communication.

  • Serve as an Officer of the Student Advisory Board when applicable (e.g. Chair, Vice-Chair, Student Fee Committee Liaison).

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

    High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by theOffice of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required

  • Demonstrate ability to successfully manage time and competing priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

  • Not otherwise employed by SafeRide, Office of Advocacy, or Student Legal Services.

Preferred

  • Knowledge or use of services provided by ASOSU Student Government.

  • Demonstrated experience with budgets, fee-setting, or decision making for an advisory board, committee, or task force.

  • Demonstrated commitment to improving experiences of others.

Working Conditions/Schedule:

This is an hourly position. At-Large members will receive compensation of $17.60/hour for all hours worked. There may be as many as 6 hours per month in Fall and early winter and as little as 2 hours per month in Summer and Spring terms.
