Senior Platform Engineer

Our client, a leading organisation within the financial services sector, is looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join their technology team. This is a permanent hybrid opportunity based in Centurion. Duties & Responsibilities What you will be doing:

• Design, build, configure and operate secure, reliable and reusable engineering platform capabilities.
• Translate approved platform architecture and engineering standards into working platform products, automation and self-service services.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, deployment and operational activities using Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices.
• Develop reusable templates, modules and platform components to reduce duplication across engineering teams.
• Build and maintain developer self-service capabilities, engineering templates, service catalogue integrations and golden paths.
• Enable engineering teams to provision environments and deploy applications with minimal dependence on central teams.
• Work with engineering teams to identify delivery challenges and continuously improve the developer experience.
• Maintain technical documentation and usage guidance for platform capabilities.
• Build and maintain standardised CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Integrate automated testing, security scanning, quality controls and policy enforcement into engineering workflows.
• Implement safe deployment patterns, environment promotion, rollback and recovery processes.
• Improve the repeatability, speed and reliability of software delivery.
• Engineer and operate cloud, container and Kubernetes platform capabilities.
• Implement secure cloud foundations, networking, identity, access and environment configurations in line with approved architecture.
• Monitor platform capacity, performance, availability and cost, and implement improvements where required.
• Maintain platform components through upgrades, patching and lifecycle management.
• Implement observability capabilities using standard logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards and alerts.
• Define and implement platform service-level indicators and operational health measures.
• Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis and the implementation of permanent corrective actions.
• Embed security controls, secrets management, access controls and compliance guardrails into platform capabilities.
• Reduce recurring operational tasks through automation and engineering improvements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to platform engineers and delivery teams.
• Contribute to platform design decisions, technical reviews, engineering standards and the platform roadmap.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Software Engineering, Security and Production Management to ensure platform capabilities are usable, supportable and aligned with organisational standards.
• Evaluate new platform technologies through practical prototyping and evidence-based recommendations.
• Improve platform adoption, reduce manual requests and engineering effort, and enhance the reliability of shared engineering services.

 What we are looking for:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience across software engineering, cloud engineering or platform engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in a senior platform engineering role.
• Experience building and operating enterprise-scale cloud platforms.
• Experience defining platform standards and engineering guardrails.
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps practices.
• Experience automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration and deployment processes.
• Experience developing reusable platform components, templates and modules.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Experience with automated testing, security scanning and quality controls within software delivery workflows.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, container platforms and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, identity and access management, and secure environment configurations.
• Experience implementing observability through logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards and alerts.
• Experience monitoring platform performance, availability, capacity and cost.
• Knowledge of incident management, root-cause analysis and service reliability practices.
• Experience implementing secrets management, security controls and compliance guardrails.
• Understanding of deployment strategies, rollback procedures and recovery processes.
• Experience improving developer self-service capabilities and engineering experience.
• Ability to translate platform architecture and engineering standards into practical technical solutions.
• Strong technical problem-solving and automation skills.
• Experience providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineers.
• Ability to collaborate with architecture, software engineering, security and production teams.
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to evaluate technologies and make evidence-based recommendations.
