We are seeking a Senior Hardware Engineering Manager in Brooklyn Park, MN location, to lead a diverse team of mechanical, project, systems, reliability, and other engineers supporting the product engineering lifecycle of our manufactured quantum computers from system integration through validation, deployment, sustainment, and decommissioning. Current work supports our Helios line of quantum computers which we are actively deploying to customer premises and will expand to future generations such as Apollo. The successful candidate will combine strong people leadership with disciplined engineering execution and product lifecycle experience. This role will lead a team responsible for the engineering analyses, planning, configuration control, technical documentation, and cross-functional coordination needed to support the performant, reliable, and reproducible realization of highly complex quantum computers. The ideal candidate will work comfortably across engineering disciplines and partner organizations to help achieve product and individual-system milestones to schedule, cost, quality, and technical-performance expectations.
All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for systems, reliability, safety, configuration, project, and product engineering activities supporting the product lifecycle with a specific focus on the system level
- Ensure robust product engineering practices including DFMEA/FMEA, system safety and reliability analysis, maintainability analysis, requirements and verification management, technical risk and readiness assessments, root-cause and corrective-action processes, configuration management, and engineering change control
- Drive engineering readiness for integration, validation, deployment, and sustainment by coordinating the people, parts, facilities, tooling, documentation, and technical dependencies required to execute planned work
- Collaborate with development teams to identify and implement cost reduction opportunities by driving integration, maintainability, and sustainability into the product design
- Establish clear ownership, priorities, and accountability within the team while balancing product-level priorities with the needs of individual systems and customer deployments.
- Drive structured problem solving and continuous improvement using root-cause analysis, corrective actions, lessons learned, and other appropriate methods to improve safety, quality, reliability, schedule performance, and engineering effectiveness
- Establish and lead a site-wide gemba process across R&D, engineering, and manufacturing spaces, applying practical Lean principles to observe work where it occurs, strengthen alignment between activities and expected outcomes, and systematically identify safety risks, inefficiencies, execution barriers, and improvement opportunities.
- Partner effectively with engineering, facilities, manufacturing, materials management, program management and other functions to identify and resolve technical and execution risks and support product and system-level outcomes
- Hire, mentor, develop, and assess engineering talent while building the capabilities needed to support current and future generations of quantum computers
