Software Engineer – Engineering Applications (Data Centres)

Role Overview

We are looking for an engineer who combines strong software development skills with an understanding of engineering systems. You will work with customers, researchers and product teams to turn data centre engineering problems into software solutions that can be tested and delivered in real projects.

We welcome candidates from engineering, physics, computing and related disciplines. Your experience may come from engineering simulation, applied research or software development; what matters is your ability to build reliable software and understand the physical systems it serves.

KeyResponsibilities

1. Engineering Applications andSoftware Development

· Design, develop and maintain software modules, tools and models for engineering applications involving data centre facilities, cooling and energy systems.

· Develop and integrate data processing, simulation, analysis or optimisation capabilities into digital solutions.

· Apply engineering knowledge to interpret operating data, assess model assumptions and investigate unexpected results.

2. Research Translation and TechnicalValidation

· Work with researchers totranslate methods, models and prototypes into software that can be tested, deployed and maintained.

· Design and perform technical tests and validation using project requirements, physical principles and available operational data.

· Document assumptions, findings and limitations, and feed project experience back into product and research development.

3. Customer Projects and Delivery

· Understand customer facilities, operating scenarios and project needs, and translate them into practical technical requirements.

· Work with project and DevOps teams on application configuration, deployment, integration testing and troubleshooting in customer environments.

· Communicate technical progress and issues with customers, partners and internal stakeholders, and prepare delivery documents and reports.

4. Software Quality and AI-AssistedEngineering

· Follow sound software engineering practices, including version control, code review, testing and maintainable implementation.

· Use AI-assisted tools in development and analysis, while reviewing and validating generated code and results.

Requirements

· Bachelor's degree or above in engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science or a related discipline.

· Around 2–5 years of relevant experience in software development, engineering applications, applied research or technical project delivery. Strong practical experience may be considered in place of a strict experience range.

· Proficiency in at least one programming language, with the ability to independently design, develop, debug, test and maintain software modules.

· Sound software engineering practices, including version control, testing and troubleshooting, and an emphasis on reliable, maintainable code.

· Knowledge or practical experience in at least one area of engineering systems or physical modelling, such as thermal fluids, cooling, energy systems, facility controls or numerical simulation.

· Ability to apply engineering principles to interpret data and models and assess whether results are physically reasonable.

· Familiarity with application configuration, deployment and debugging, and the ability to work with DevOps teams on project delivery.

· Hands-on experience using AI tools to support programming, analysis or problem-solving, with the ability to review and verify their outputs.

· Good communication and collaboration skills, the ability to drive assigned work independently, and theability to work in English.

PreferredQualifications

· Knowledge of data centres,HVAC, cooling or other building services systems.

· Experience in CFD, finite element analysis, energy modelling or other engineering simulation.

· Experience with digital twins, industrial software, intelligent control or data analytics.

· Experience translating research into practice, validating prototypes or delivering customer projects.
