Product Safety Officer

Job Description

Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience

Location Wotton-under-Edge, Glos

Product safety and compliance regulations are an expanding and rapidly changing area in global trade and we need a new team member to help the business access new markets, minimise business risk and help ensure that our products and equipment is safe and in compliance with market requirements.

Our team supports many parts of the business including design, marketing, purchasing, quality, production, H&S, technical publications, service, installation and legal, and we need to provide detailed technical guidance and support to internal and external customers. We achieve this using concise, relevant, and effective documents, processes and on-line training, as well as day-to-day assistance.

The safety and compliance area is rich with legislation and standards that needs interpreting and communicating clearly within the business, so you’ll need an eye for detail and good English language skills.

The role of Product Safety Officer is key to the Product Safety Verification and Certification (PSVC) team and focuses on the assessment of compliance evidence to help ensure that Renishaw's products are safe, compliant and can be legally sold and used in global markets.

The role also focusses on gathering regulatory information, maintaining our regulatory database, interpreting requirements (with the help of experts where needed) and providing guidance to design teams to ensure they know the requirements that apply to their equipment, then reviewing and recording evidence of compliance and drafting Declarations of Conformity for signature by responsible parties.

In addition, the role includes management and update of regulatory documents and processes, particularly regulatory requirements checklist around which all our regulatory processes are based. It also includes development of training packages and communications to ensure designers are kept up to date on processes procedures and requirements that may affect their designs.

Recognising that this is a niche area and you may not have specific experience in all the areas in which we work, we are principally looking for the right kind of person who can develop with the role.

• Basic numerical skills; the role is not within engineering, but standards and processes do have numerical methods so at GCSE level or above is preferred.
• Excellent MS Office tool skills and a good understanding of SharePoint.
• Good communications skills: Verbal, Written, Presentations, training materials.

Experience

• Experience of data gathering and management.
• Experience of compliance or quality processes or systems.
• Experience of writing easy to use, effective processes, documents and training materials.
• Experience of document review.

Desirable requirements

• Regulatory experience and familiarity with EU and UK legislative documents.
• Science and/or Engineering background including degree level qualification
• Experience of using standards.
• Product risk assessment processes.
• Ability to calmly debate a technical or regulatory point in order to achieve the best answer for the business (not just win an argument for the sake of a personal victory).
• Experience of quality systems.
• Good communication skills to engage with internal customers (sometimes on difficult subjects).
• Understanding of product design & manufacturing processes.
• Understanding and exposure to H&S processes.
• Some exposure to marketing and/or a customer service environment.
• Knowledge of the Renishaw products.
• Experience of working within a project environment.
