When the numbers tell a story, someone needs to know what to do with them.

I’m working on a Key Account Manager search for an established player in Malaysia’s vehicle salvage and damaged vehicle auction space, working closely with insurance companies and corporate partners to maximise asset recovery outcomes.

This role brings together account management, commercial growth, data analysis and operations.

A big part of the role is managing and growing relationships with insurance partners, increasing vehicle volumes, identifying opportunities within existing accounts and supporting initiatives that strengthen the business within the insurance industry.

But the commercial side is only part of it.

The role is highly data-driven, with responsibility for analysing auction performance, recovery outcomes, conversion rates and operational trends. Advanced Excel is critical, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUPs, conditional formulas, report building and working with large datasets.

The expectation is not simply to produce a report. The KAM needs to understand the numbers, identify what is driving performance, challenge assumptions where needed and turn the findings into practical recommendations for both clients and internal stakeholders.

There is also an operational element, working closely with Finance, Warehouse, Auctions and Marketing while overseeing vehicle pre-intake and a small customer service function to support the vendor and buyer experience.

Backgrounds in insurance, automotive, used-car platforms, auctions, vehicle services, fleet, leasing or corporate account management would all be relevant. The common thread is strong commercial thinking, confident stakeholder management and the ability to work with data at a high level.

The sweet spot is someone commercially minded who enjoys having a relationship with the client but also wants to understand what is actually driving the numbers behind it.
