Fire Base Supervisor

The Opportunity:

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is seeking a results-oriented, dynamic, and motivated individual for the position of Fire Base Supervisor.

This position is responsible for the organization and coordination of fire suppression tactical and strategic response in the forest protection area. Wildland fire pre-suppression activities including maintaining equipment and infrastructure, purchase of goods and services, fire response planning, public education, mitigating fire risks, and ensuring training is provided to employees to meet operational and safety requirements. Other assigned duties may include park and recreation site development and maintenance.

• Plan and prepare protection area fire plans.
• Assist in developing daily wildland fire suppression plans by assessing fire indices, ignition sources, and values at risk.
• Issue and monitor burn notifications and perform fire suppression activities within the Protection Area, remote areas, and out-of-province/country assignments.
• Provide advice and collaborate with local governments, municipalities, and industry on fire risk assessment, risk management, and fuel management plan development.
• Perform administrative functions including ordering and maintaining food, equipment, and commissary; scheduling crews; and making purchases to operate and maintain the protection base.
• Manage a diverse group of employees to achieve organizational goals and maintain effective operations.
• Exchange clear and accurate information with staff, stakeholders, and partners.
• Deliver and facilitate public presentations and training programs.
• Compose technical documents such as fire reports, fire plans, burn plans, and probationary reviews in a timely and concise manner.
• Operate and travel in small fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, boats, and ATVs.
• Procure supplies for the Protection Area as needed.
• Prioritize work demands and meet deadlines.
• Contribute to park and recreation site development and maintenance as required.

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience in large or multiple fire management in supervisory role supplemented with extensive and progressive wildland fire training.
• Good radio communication skills and good computer use skills would be considered assets.
• The completion of Grade 12 would be an asset.
