Job Profile Summary

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, maintenance, security, and optimization of SEARHC's hybrid infrastructure environment. This includes on-premises, cloud-based, and virtualized platforms supporting clinical, operational, and business services across Southeast Alaska.

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer supports technologies including Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, enterprise storage, backup and recovery solutions, networking services, and cybersecurity controls.

This position serves as a Tier III escalation resource and participates in enterprise technology projects, infrastructure modernization efforts, cybersecurity initiatives, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery operations. The Infrastructure Engineer III is expected to function with a high degree of autonomy while ensuring the availability, security, performance, and recoverability of mission-critical healthcare systems.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

Infrastructure Administration

• Administer and support Nutanix hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.
• Maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments.
• Support Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and services.
• Administer Active Directory, Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and identity management services.
• Support Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environments.
• Administer Microsoft 365 infrastructure and related cloud services.
• Maintain infrastructure monitoring and alerting systems.
• Manage enterprise storage platforms and associated technologies.

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

• Administers and maintains enterprise backup and recovery platforms supporting both on-premises and cloud-hosted systems.
• Monitors backup jobs, recovery point objectives (RPOs), and recovery time objectives (RTOs) to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
• Performs backup validation, recovery testing, and restoration activities for servers, applications, databases, and virtual environments.
• Participates in the development, maintenance, and execution of business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
• Assists with disaster recovery exercises and failover testing for critical infrastructure and healthcare applications.
• Supports infrastructure resiliency initiatives, including redundancy, replication, and high-availability solutions.
• Identifies and mitigates risks related to system availability, recoverability, and operational continuity.
• Maintains documentation related to backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.
• Collaborates with cybersecurity, networking, and application teams to ensure recoverability of critical systems in the event of a cyber incident, ransomware event, or natural disaster.Security and Compliance
• Implement security best practices and hardening standards.
• Support vulnerability remediation activities.
• Participate in cybersecurity investigations and incident response activities.
• Maintain regulatory compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and applicable healthcare security requirements.

Automation and Engineering

• Develop PowerShell and automation solutions.
• Create and maintain infrastructure documentation and operational standards.
• Participate in infrastructure design reviews and technology evaluations.
• Recommend solutions that improve operational efficiency, resiliency, and security.

Primary Focus

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

• Associate degree, bachelor's degree, internship experience, or 2 years equivalent work experience

Experience Required

• 7+ years of relevant infrastructure engineering experience
