The opportunity

The Executive Director, Software Engineering is a seasoned technology leader responsible for shaping SGX’s enterprise software engineering vision, platform strategy, and technical operating model. This role holds broad accountability for engineering excellence across architecture, platform resilience, governance, and leadership capability, ensuring SGX’s technology estate remains secure, scalable, and future-ready. Working across multiple teams and domains, the role translates strategic priorities into modern engineering practices, drives critical technology decisions, raises technical standards, and enables senior engineering leaders to deliver high-performing platforms that strengthen SGX’s long-term competitiveness, innovation, and operational resilience.

The Software Engineering team

Software Engineering builds, runs and evolves the applications and platforms behind SGX Group's business and market infrastructure.

The team works closely with product, architecture, platform, security and delivery colleagues to turn business priorities into secure, resilient and scalable services. Its remit spans the full engineering lifecycle, from technical design and delivery through to production ownership and continuous improvement.

Our next phase is about strengthening engineering ownership, modernising platforms and practices and building consistency across teams without flattening the different needs of each business domain.

What you will do

• Software Development: Define the enterprise engineering vision and drive transformation of the software delivery process across SGX Tech.
• Software Design: Shape enterprise-wide software architecture strategy and technology evolution.
• Secure Software Development: Define Tech org-wide application security and engineering risk strategy.
• Testing & Quality Engineering: Drive Tech org-wide quality transformation and delivery assurance strategy.
• System Integration: Define Tech org-wide integration and interoperability strategy.
• SDLC & Delivery Excellence: Drive Tech org-wide operational resilience and service reliability direction.
• Observability & Production Support: Define organisational service ownership and operational excellence strategy.
• Automation & Productivity: Lead organisational productivity strategy and investment priorities, driving productivity transformation through automation and AI.
• Leadership & Mentoring: Define engineering culture, workforce strategy and long-term capability development.
• Agentic AI Engineering: Reimagine software delivery around AI-native operating models and ecosystem capabilities.
• Act as a senior technology leader and trusted partner to business and technology stakeholders, influencing strategic decisions and positioning engineering as a driver of resilience, innovation, and competitive advantage.

What we are looking for

• Experience: Extensive experience in senior software engineering, platform engineering or technology leadership roles, with accountability for multiple engineering teams, senior leaders or enterprise platforms in complex, high-availability environments.
• Track record: Strong track record of defining enterprise engineering direction and translating strategy into scalable operating models, governance frameworks and long-term platform evolution.
• Technical stack: Deep expertise in modern distributed systems including microservices, service mesh and observability platforms, with strong cloud platform knowledge across AWS EKS, Azure AKS and GCP GKE, and advanced knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering practices such as incident management, chaos engineering and capacity planning.
• Standards & environment: Track record of improving operational resilience and service maturity across mission-critical, regulated enterprise platforms.
• Communication & leadership: Proven ability to lead leaders and scale engineering organisations through mentoring, upskilling strategies and performance frameworks, with strong executive presence and the ability to influence major technology decisions and align engineering outcomes with enterprise priorities.
• Education & certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information and Communications Technology, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
• Domain Knowledge: Exposure to financial market infrastructure, including securities and derivatives trading, clearing, settlement, market operations, or exchange-related systems.
