ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Accountant for Shinola and Filson will play a key role in supporting the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end close processes across multiple brands and business channels. This role is ideal for a highly analytical, detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced retail and consumer products environment and enjoys partnering cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, FP&A, and leadership teams. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for owning complex reconciliations, analyzing financial results, supporting general ledger and cost accounting activities, and identifying opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies. This individual should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities simultaneously, and communicating financial insights clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. A successful candidate will possess strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and advanced Excel capabilities, along with the ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic and evolving business environment. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

This is a high-visibility seat on a small, capable accounting team supporting two iconic American brands. You will own the reconciliations, close deliverables, and financial analysis that tell us how the business is performing across retail, ecommerce, and wholesale - and your work will directly shape how leadership manages margin, spend, and growth decisions. Due to our shared service model across Shinola and Filson, you will see the full picture of the business and partner daily with Supply Chain, Operations, Retail, Ecommerce, and FP&A rather than working in a silo. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own and execute complex monthly account reconciliations across cash, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany accounts, and other balance sheet accounts
• Lead cost and margin analysis, including:
  • Gross margin and product profitability drivers
  • Cost of goods sold and expense trend analysis
  • Standard cost and purchase price variance analysis
  • Manufacturing and operational cost fluctuations
• Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities impacting margins and profitability
• Support and actively participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and audit-ready backup
• Assist with budget-to-actual variance analysis and provide detailed commentary to support FP&A and leadership review
• Partner cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Operations, Retail, Ecommerce, and FP&A teams to support financial reporting, cost management, and operational initiatives
• Support internal and external audit requests, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and documentation for auditors
• Assist with maintaining and improving internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
• Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and efficiencies within accounting workflows and reporting processes
• Participate in ERP system enhancements, implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support ad hoc financial analysis, reporting requests, and special projects as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4-7+ years of progressive accounting or audit experience, preferably within retail, consumer products, or multi-channel/multi-entity environments
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• CPA designation or public accounting experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and financial reporting principles
• Experience supporting month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling capabilities
• Experience working within ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms preferred
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels of the organization
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability
