Senior Government Affairs Specialist, Marketplace

Strategic Government Relations & Advocacy:

• Build and maintain a robust network of working level and senior stakeholder contacts within key Malaysian ministries and agencies, such as the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Ministry of Communications, and/or Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR)
• Act as the primary liaison and trusted point of contact to facilitate dialogue, bridge gaps, and align company objectives with national agendas.
• Develop and execute comprehensive government relations strategies to secure regulatory approvals, advocate for policy changes, and mitigate business risks.

Stakeholder Engagement & Access:

• Drive high-level engagements, meetings, and strategic partnerships with senior government officials, including Ministers, Secretaries-General (KSU) and Senior Ministry reps
• Craft compelling position papers, briefing notes, and strategic narratives to facilitate engagements with senior stakeholders from the Ministry

Policy Analysis & Intelligence:

• Monitor, analyze, and anticipate shifts in Malaysia’s political, regulatory, and policy landscape at both the government and Ministry levels (e.g., national and Ministry budgets,newly tabled bills, existing regulations and guidelines).
• Provide timely, actionable insights to leadership regarding the business impact of policy changes to the business
• Advise internal business units on navigating complex government protocols and compliance frameworks
• Coordinate high-impact roundtables, policy forums, and ministerial visits that elevate the company’s thought leadership and corporate reputation.

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Political Science, International Relations or others.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in Government Affairs, Public Policy, or Corporate Affairs, with a distinct track record of direct engagement with senior Malaysian government officials
• Established Network: Must have existing access to contacts within the MOH, MOF, KPDN, MOHR and/or Ministry of Communications. Past experience working within these ministries or associated agencies is highly advantageous.
• Strategic Communication: Experienced in both formal and informal external stakeholder communications and possesses negotiation skills. Proven ability to translate complex business issues into public policy solutions.
• Detail-Oriented: Organise and detailed in recording and maintaining detailed engagement records
• Procurement: Skilled in sourcing vendors, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery.
• Protocol & Nuance: Good understanding of Malaysian government processes, protocols and procurement systems.
• Language: Proficient in both Bahasa Malaysia and English, with the ability to write and speak Bahasa Malaysia in formal settings.
