Key
Responsibilities Perform HV cable sizing and steady-state/emergency cyclic rating studies for buried, ducted, tunnel, trough and above-ground cable installations. Develop cable-system design bases, route engineering inputs, installation arrangements, pulling/tension checks, joint-bay requirements and termination requirements. Design sheath bonding, cross-bonding, earthing and link-box arrangements and assess induced voltages, electromagnetic effects and losses. Specify HV power cables, joints, terminations, link boxes, fibre/monitoring provisions and associated accessories. Undertake or support load-flow, short-circuit, voltage, reactive-power, harmonic, insulation-coordination and earthing studies. Define engineering study assumptions, models, operating scenarios and acceptance criteria and clearly document results, limitations and recommendations. Coordinate cable interfaces with substations, overhead lines, civil works, protection, telecoms and construction teams. Review manufacturer calculations, drawings and technical data while supporting bid evaluation, installation, testing, commissioning and fault investigation.
Required Skills HV/EHV Cable Engineering: Strong hands-on knowledge of HV cable systems, preferably XLPE systems at 132 kV and above. Cable Rating: Practical application of IEC 60287 and IEC 60853 for steady-state, emergency and cyclic cable-rating calculations. Bonding & Earthing: Strong understanding of sheath bonding, cross-bonding, earthing, induced sheath voltages and electromagnetic effects. Cable Rating Software: Hands-on capability with CYMCAP or an equivalent recognized cable-rating package. Power-System Analysis: Practical experience with ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E or equivalent for load flow, fault-level, voltage/reactive-power and related studies. Preferred Skills Transmission-voltage XLPE cable-system experience at 132 kV and above. Familiarity with relevant IEC, BS/EN and ENA engineering practices. Postgraduate specialization in power systems or high-voltage engineering.
Work Experience
Requirements Candidates must have 8-12 years of relevant professional experience in cable systems and/or power-system studies, with substantial hands-on responsibility and direct ownership of engineering deliverables. Experience should include high-voltage power, transmission, substations, utilities or directly comparable critical infrastructure. Candidates should demonstrate experience coordinating civil, route and substation interfaces and reviewing manufacturer engineering data.
Education Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering Preferred: Postgraduate study in Power Systems or High-Voltage Engineering
