Junior Cartographer / Geospatial Analyst I

The Team:

Our Cartography team is collaborative, supportive, and distributed across the UK, India, and Singapore. The team combines technical and regional expertise to deliver accurate, consistent, and visually effective maps for S&P Global products and client-facing research.

The Impact:

The Cartography team produces and maintains two core map suites that support our products and services. The team also works with research colleagues to create maps that communicate complex geographic information clearly and support effective client interactions.

Responsibilities:

• Create, update, and maintain maps for the Upstream intelligence product suite.
• Edit, organize, and quality-check spatial data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with cartographic standards.
• Collaborate with regional experts to validate geographic content and improve local accuracy.
• Manage assigned work in line with established publication schedules and quality requirements.
• Support the development of new map types, workflow improvements, and cartographic content enhancements.
• Respond to ad hoc mapping requests and communicate progress, questions, or data-quality concerns to relevant colleagues.

What We’re Looking For:

• Background or equivalent practical experience in cartography, geography, geospatial science, GIS, or a related field.
• Experience using ArcGIS Pro or comparable GIS software through coursework, personal projects, internships, placements, volunteering, or professional work.
• Basic knowledge of common spatial data types, such as shapefiles, geodatabases, vector data, and raster data.
• Basic understanding of cartographic principles, including symbology, labeling, layout, visual hierarchy, and scale.
