Medior full-stack developer for a product with social impact

We develop a platform for Video Relay Service and Video Remote Interpreting. Thanks to it, Deaf people have immediate access to sign language interpreters. They can communicate with institutions, call a doctor, a bank or a friend, and have a regular phone conversation in much the same way hearing people do. National services in 10 countries run on the platform today, and more are on the way. Next year more than 200,000 interpreting sessions will run through it. That is why we are looking for a new colleague who will help us keep delivering new projects and features quickly.

The role

The role comes with ownership of a part of the platform. That means building new functionality and helping us deliver the projects we have promised to our clients, on time and in good quality. It also means direct contact with the technical teams on the client side, and standing in for the CTO when an emergency comes up and the CTO is not available. Responsibility grows with experience, and the part-time cooperation can grow into a full-time one.

We are an AI-first team. Most of our code is written with AI, and the developer who ships it stays responsible for the result. Alongside development, there is room to help us bring AI-first processes into the rest of the company as well.

We are not looking just for a vibe coder. We are looking for someone who understands the code, the architecture and the infrastructure it runs on, ideally with real coding and technical experience, and who uses AI heavily in everyday work. The important part is understanding what the AI is building and why it works, and spotting it when the AI makes a mistake.

Experience with every part of our system is not required. The CTO will teach what is missing, and AI makes the learning much faster.

What you will do

• Work with AI on every piece of functionality, from the first draft to the release

• Build across our whole stack: Python, Django and Celery on the backend, Vue and Nuxt on the web, a Next.js admin dashboard, React Native mobile apps, a Node socket server, PostgreSQL and Redis, LiveKit, Twilio and Asterisk for video and phone calls, Docker Compose on cloud servers, GitLab CI

• Help prepare and deploy new country instances

• Review AI-generated code with a critical eye and help us improve how we work with AI

• Write and maintain automated tests alongside new features

What we are looking for

• An AI-first way of working, backed by a real technical background and the judgement to tell good code from bad code

• Critical thinking. Most of our coding is done through AI, so what keeps the platform stable and secure is understanding what the AI produces and catching its mistakes before they reach production

• A growth mindset and the energy to work with us on turning Deafcom into an AI-first company

• Responsibility and independence, from taking on a task to delivering it

• English at a communicative level, written and spoken

A plus, but not a must:

• Hands-on experience with Python, Vue or React Native

• Docker, Linux servers, CI pipelines

• Real-time systems, WebRTC or telephony
