Description of Work

The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), in collaboration with its partners, protects the health and safety of all North Carolinians and provides essential human services.

DHHS/Division of Child and Family Well-Being focuses on supporting whole child and family health and well-being for North Carolinians. This division works to ensure that North Carolina's children grow up safe, healthy and thriving in nurturing and resilient families and communities. It will bring together complementary programs from the Divisions of Public Health, Mental Health, and Social Services to maximize services and outcomes for children and their families, including nutrition programs (SNAP, WIC and Child and Adult Care Food Program), health and prevention services for children and youth, children's behavioral health services, and early intervention programs.

This position as an Early Intervention Service Coordinator for children, birth to three, is located within the catchment area of the Children's Developmental Services Agency (CDSA) of The Cape Fear (Wilmington). This position will be located and serve children in New Hanover Co and the surrounding area (Brunswick, Pender, Columbus & Duplin).

This position will work predominately with our intake and eligibility team talking with families and community agencies about the program, referral steps, and accepting and processing referrals including data entry.

Additional duties may include working with multi-disciplinary teams to determine a child’s eligibility and the families’ needs for supports and services and working with families and providers to develop initial Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs). T

his position may require conducting some home visits.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $37,377 -$65,408

Recruitment Range: $37,377-$50,625

The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage time independently.
  • Experience working with children in the age range 0-5 and their families, including children with developmental delays.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of young child development.
  • Experience working with and collaborating with families, community organizations, and other agencies.

Management Preferences:

  • Knowledge of coaching interaction styles and adult learning principles.
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers and their families using research-informed and/or evidence-based practices for the provision of early intervention services.
  • Experience developing treatment and/or outcomes-based plans, setting goals, planning, writing and measuring outcomes for children and their families

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to drive and travel by car across the CDSA’s defined catchment area.

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education, Psychology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of professional experience working with the population served; or Bachelor’s degree in human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of professional experience working with the population served; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
