Statkraft is an Oslo-based renewable energy company, wholly owned by the Norwegian state, that develops and operates hydropower, wind, solar, gas-fired and biomass plants, supplies district heating and trades power in international energy markets. It is the largest generator of renewable energy in Europe, traces its history to 1895, produced 72.1 TWh in 2025 and employs around 6,500 people in about 20 countries across Europe, South America and Asia, with a shared services centre in Cork. It hires O&M and control technicians in Peru, wind and solar construction project managers, enterprise architects, market analysts, grid and GIS specialists, energy traders and finance staff.

Why Statkraft?

Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. That’s what we offer. 125 years of unrivalled expertise in supplying the world with what it needs most. We envision a world that runs entirely on renewable energy. Because in the fight against climate change, we don’t see renewable energy as part of the solution - we believe it must be the solution. With us, you’ll shape a career that is truly forward-facing with many amazing opportunities and offerings to match.

In the Software Engineering Excellence (TDD) unit, we are passionate about building great software and empowering digital innovation at scale. Our teams work across software engineering, platform engineering, data services and technical excellence, collaborating with business and technology experts throughout Statkraft. Together, we develop the digital products and platforms that help drive the energy transition while creating lasting value for one of Europe's leading renewable energy companies.

In the STM (Short-Term Modelling) team, we build the software used to plan and optimize Statkraft’s Nordic hydropower production over the next 1-10 days. Sitting between the energy markets, long-term market analysis, hydrology forecasts, and real-time operations, our solutions run 24/7 in Norway and Sweden to help production planners and dispatchers make the best use of the water in our reservoirs.

We deliver both the operative planning application and the underlyingPython and C++ libraries for watercourse modelling, optimization algorithms, and running the SHOP optimization engine. Because both our own services and other teams build directly on these libraries, we care about good software engineering fundamentals: clean APIs, clear module boundaries, semantic versioning, and proper release management.

We lean heavily into a traditional Linux environment: we develop onFedora, distribute our software as native RPM packages, and ship our services as Helm charts deployed via Flux to Kubernetes clusters both on-prem and in the cloud. If you feel at home in the terminal, appreciate how Linux systems are put together, and are comfortable working over SSH, you will fit right in.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong programmer in Python, with C++ (CMake) a strong plus and TypeScript a plus.
  • Good at library and API design: clear module boundaries, versioned interfaces and deprecation paths, so others can depend on our software safely.
  • Package ecosystem and CI: Linux packaging (RPM/dnf), GitLab CI and containers, so modules are easy to build, release and consume.
  • Uses AI coding agents productively, for example for large mechanical refactorings, while caring about the quality and testability of what gets merged.

Soft skills:

  • Comfortable with cleanup work: large refactorings done step by step behind tests, deleting code, moving reporting and collectors out of STM without breaking operations.
  • Thinks in terms of the developers who use STM: examples and docs so teams can use the software without help from our team.
  • Good social and communication skills
  • Fluent in English and preferably Norwegian
  • Pro-active team player who feels responsible and enjoys challenging themselves
  • Have a drive for excellence

Other useful skills

  • Kubernetes/Helm is a plus, not a requirement.

At Statkraft, you’ll shape a career that is truly forward-facing with many amazing opportunities and offerings to match. This includes (non-exclusive):

  • The chance to grow your career alongside a truly global network of experts, leaders, specialists and graduates from different countries and backgrounds
  • The opportunity to work somewhere with pride, and to be able to honestly say “My work is contributing to saving the planet”
  • A work culture that puts emphasis on the individual, offering flexible working solutions, and work life balance principles
  • A focus on fun outside of work, supported by various activity groups such as soccer, yoga, sailing, climbing, boxing, cabin rentals, and much more
  • Being part of a company proudly certified as a ‘Great Place to Work’

Our vision is to renew the way the world is powered. To navigate the complex journey ahead, we need every voice at the table. We therefore work actively to be a diverse and inclusive workplace and welcome all applicants regardless of background, gender, age, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnicity, nationality or disability.

Statkraft offers competitive terms of employment and benefits schemes, and we’re a trusted employer that puts the safety of our people first. We believe that a safe and healthy working environment is a matter of choice, not chance.

Statkraft manages critical infrastructure and services in several countries. We conduct background checks on qualified applicants before hire. The applicant must be eligible for security clearance and authorisation.
