About the Role

Team Global Express is looking for aManufacturing Execution Systems Engineer to support the reliability and performance of our automated freight operations.

Our sortation systems, conveyors, screening equipment and control systems are critical to keeping freight moving safely and on time. In this role, you will take ownership of the automation and control systems supporting our freight operations, responding to faults, identifying root causes and improving system performance.

This is ahands-on technical role suited to an engineer or automation specialist who enjoys troubleshooting, problem solving and working closely with operational and maintenance teams.

You will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and technology partners to improve system reliability, minimise downtime and support continuous improvement.

Location: Based in Melbourne, VIC, with Sydney, NSW also being considered.

The role will require occasional travel to other TGE sites as required.

What You'll Do

  • Provide hands-on support for PLC, WCS, MES and sortation control systems

  • Respond to automation and control system faults during live operations

  • Troubleshoot electrical, PLC, network and control system issues

  • Develop, test and modify PLC programs to support machinery upgrades and system improvements

  • Perform root cause analysis on complex automation and control system faults

  • Support the maintenance and optimisation of automated sortation and conveyor systems

  • Identify system bottlenecks and opportunities to improve throughput and reliability

  • Support electrical design, panel modifications, testing and commissioning of new equipment

  • Assist with the integration and commissioning of new equipment and system upgrades

  • Support specialised systems, including X-ray screening equipment

  • Support the reliability, lifecycle management and performance improvement of automation and control systems

  • Develop and maintain preventative maintenance and troubleshooting processes

  • Work with third-party technology providers and contractors when required

  • Provide technical guidance, training and coaching to maintenance teams

  • Support engineering projects, capital works and system upgrades

  • Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with relevant standards

What You'll Bring

  • Engineering qualification in Electrical, Automation, Mechatronics or a related discipline

  • 2-3+ years' experience in industrial automation, controls, engineering or maintenance

  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment

  • Experience with Siemens / SIMATIC PLCs would be highly regarded

  • Knowledge of industrial networks including Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP and ASI Bus

  • Experience with PLC, HMI, SCADA, WCS or MES systems

  • Experience developing, testing or modifying PLC code

  • Understanding of electrical systems, control panels and industrial equipment

  • Experience working with automated machinery, conveyors or sortation systems

  • Strong fault-finding and root cause analysis skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capability

  • Ability to work hands-on with maintenance and operational teams

  • Good communication skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders

  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and willingness to learn the TGE operating environment
