General Manager

An established Shopfitting Fabricator, specialising in custom metal fabrication and tailored manufacturing solutions, is looking to recruit a technically strong, commercially astute General Manager to lead its business.
This role requires a hands-on leader with a sound understanding of engineering drawings, metal fabrication and manufacturing processes, capable of overseeing the complete process from concept and design through to factory production and installation. Duties & Responsibilities Key Responsibilities

• Lead overall business performance, driving profitability, operational efficiency and sustainable growth.
• Oversee the full manufacturing process, from concept development and technical drawings through fabrication, production and installation.
• Interpret technical drawings, assess manufacturing feasibility and ensure designs can be translated into practical, cost-effective finished products.
• Oversee Sales, Estimating, Projects, Drawing Office, Production, Dispatch, Installations and Finance.
• Drive production planning, quality, cost control and on-time project delivery.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, cash flow, working capital and financial performance.
• Build strong customer and supplier relationships.
• Lead departmental managers, driving accountability, operational discipline and continuous improvement.

Candidate Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Management or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum 8 years' progressive management experience, including senior operational leadership.
• Strong technical background in metal fabrication, manufacturing and production processes.
• Ability to read, interpret and critically evaluate engineering and fabrication drawings, with a practical understanding of how components and finished products are manufactured.
• Sound knowledge of metalworking processes, fabrication methods, materials, production equipment and manufacturing capabilities.
• Proven ability to oversee the concept-to-manufacture process, working closely with designers, draughtspeople, production managers and factory personnel.
• Experience in custom manufacturing, shopfitting, retail equipment manufacturing or a similar project-based engineering environment.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budgets, costing, margins and P&L responsibility.
• A practical, solutions-driven leader who is equally comfortable engaging with customers, reviewing technical drawings and managing factory operations.
