Purpose

Develops, coordinates, and administers occupational health programs designed to prevent and reduce workplace hazards. Performs clinical and administrative duties within the HealthPoint Occupational Health Program, a division of Human Resources. Provides nursing assessment, treatment, and follow-up care to faculty and staff while exercising professional nursing judgment within the RN’s scope of practice and in accordance with Standing Delegated Orders (SDOs) issued by the Medical Director.

Responsibilities

  • Onsite Assessment and Treatment of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses Provides nursing care within the RN’s individual and professional scope of practice and in accordance with Standing Delegated Orders (SDOs) issued by the Medical Director. Assesses and treats nonemergent work-related injuries and illnesses; provides first aid; determines the need for advanced care; and coordinates emergency medical response when indicated. Makes appropriate medical referrals and conducts follow-up evaluations as needed. Performs clinical skills including, but not limited to, vital signs, physical assessments, respirator fit testing, audiograms, immunizations, and tuberculosis screening.
  • Occupational Health Medical Surveillance Programs Coordinates and manages employee participation in occupational medical surveillance programs, including, but not limited to, Asbestos, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Materials (Hazmat), Department of Transportation (DOT), Respiratory Protection, Laboratory Animal Personnel, Reactor Operator, and Hearing Protection programs. Manages the Respiratory Protection and Hearing Protection Programs, including respirator fit testing and audiometric testing in accordance with applicable program requirements and regulatory guidelines. Maintains current medical clearances for faculty and staff enrolled in occupational health surveillance programs and assists in the development and implementation of new or revised medical surveillance requirements as warranted.
  • Workers’ Compensation, Leave Management, and Return-to-Work Collaborates with Human Resources and the Workers’ Compensation unit regarding workers’ compensation claims, Sick Leave Pool matters, and return-to-work cases. Utilizes active listening and problem-solving skills to identify employee needs and provide appropriate referrals and resources. Maintains accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation and administrative records in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, confidentiality standards, and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Outreach and Communication Develops and communicates Occupational Health Program (OHP) programs, policies, procedures, and educational information to employees, management, and university leadership through a variety of communication methods, including presentations, committee participation, written reports, electronic correspondence, web content, and social media.
  • Essential/On-Call Functions Serves as essential personnel and the primary on-call clinician for work-related injuries and occupational exposures occurring outside OHP operating hours, including response to campus emergencies and evacuations. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Licensure

  • Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the State of Texas.

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, including CPR/AED

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
