The Warehouse Group is New Zealand's largest general merchandise retail group, headquartered in Auckland and operating The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery and Noel Leeming chains. Founded by Sir Stephen Tindall in 1982 and listed on the NZX, it runs 218 stores, online stores and distribution centres across the country, sourcing offices in China and India, and employs more than 10,000 people. Its openings are largely store-based, such as Noel Leeming sales consultants and customer service representatives, loss prevention officers, delivery drivers and installation specialists, alongside buying, sales support and data and AI engineering roles.

Turn data into decisions that shape how New Zealand shops.

At The Warehouse, we're investing in the future of our Merchandise function and building stronger commercial capability across the business. As part of that journey, we're creating a new Retail Insights Analyst role.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves uncovering the story behind the numbers and turning insight into action. You'll help us understand what's driving retail performance, identify opportunities for growth, and influence smarter commercial decisions across the business.

Working closely with Merchandise, Planning, Marketing, Operations and Finance, you'll play a big part in developing how we understand and improve retail performance - analyse sales, customer and store performance data to uncover trends, understand performance drivers and provide actionable recommendations. You’ll work beyond a specific category or portfolio, but across our whole merchandise space. You enjoy exploring data, finding patterns, testing assumptions and connecting different pieces of information until the commercial story becomes clear.

This is not reporting for reporting sake. You’ll have freedom to explore data, challenge assumptions and develop insights to be used across the business.

You'll explore questions like:

  • What's driving changes in sales performance?
  • How do traffic, conversion and basket size influence results?
  • What can we learn from key trading events and promotional activity?
  • Where are the biggest opportunities across stores, regions and categories?

As a newly created role, you'll also help shape how we measure retail performance by developing reporting frameworks, benchmarking approaches and insight tools that support better decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse sales, customer and store performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities
  • Develop insights into retail drivers including traffic, conversion, basket value and purchasing behaviour
  • Evaluate promotions, seasonal activity and key trading events to inform future planning
  • Build reporting, benchmarking and performance measurement tools that support action
  • Partner across the business to translate complex analysis into clear commercial recommendations

You're naturally curious and enjoy solving problems through data. You look beyond what happened to understand why it happened and what should happen next. You can simplify the complex, communicate compelling insights and help stakeholders turn analysis into action.

Our wishlist includes:

  • Prior experience in retail/merchandise analytics, commercial insights, business analysis or similar
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large datasets
  • Understanding of retail metrics such as sales, margin, traffic, conversion and basket value, and things that influence retail performance
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with visualisation or reporting tools such as Power BI (ideally)
  • Ability to translate complex analysis into clear, practical recommendations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and commercial curiosity

This is a unique role so even if you don't tick every box, we'd still love to hear from you!

Come work with us!

The Warehouse Group is in the middle of a significant transformation. Our product strategies have been defined, and our ways of working continue to evolve. We're investing in new capability across Merchandise and creating opportunities for talented people to help shape our future.

When you join us, we offer a range of benefits that work for you, your lifestyle and your career, inc.:

  • Team Member discounts across our brands
  • Paid birthday leave and volunteer day (for permanent team members)
  • Free parking and EV charging on site
  • On-site café and gym facilities
  • Flexible working with Fridays from home
  • 26 weeks' paid parental leave
  • ….and more!

This is an opportunity to build something new. If you're excited by the idea of getting underneath the numbers, finding the story behind performance and turning data that guide the business to smarter decisions that have real commercial impact, we'd love to hear from you.
