About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Director of AI Engineering to lead our AI transformation at the organizational level. Reporting to a VP or C-level executive, you will oversee multiple engineering managers and their teams, set the multi-year AI strategy, and drive measurable business outcomes across product lines and regions. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering excellence, organizational change, and executive influence.

What You'll Do

• Define and drive the organization-wide AI transformation roadmap, ensuring AI capability development is tightly aligned with company business objectives. Represent the engineering organization in executive and board-level conversations, translating progress and investment into clear business impact.
• Build and scale high-performing engineering leadership by managing multiple Engineering Managers, owning EM-level hiring, development, and performance, and systematically shifting the organization toward an AI-first engineering culture.
• Partner with Sr. Directors and VPs across Product, Research, Security, and Infrastructure to align priorities, allocate resources across initiatives, and lead high-complexity, cross-functional AI programs from strategy through delivery.
• Establish AI engineering governance standards - including architecture decision frameworks, quality benchmarks, and risk management mechanisms - to ensure production AI systems meet reliability, security, and compliance requirements at scale.

What We're Looking For

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering or AI/ML-related fields, with 5+ years managing Engineering Managers (managing managers)
• Proven track record of leading large-scale AI transformation, with clear examples of driving strategy from conception through organizational adoption
• Strategic clarity on GenAI and AI platform trends, with the ability to make sound investment and architecture decisions without requiring deep technical execution
• Experience managing engineering organizations across product lines or regions, with demonstrated ability to drive change and cultural transformation within an amoeba-style or fluid organizational structure
• Strong organizational influence - able to build alignment and drive decisions across levels and functions

Nice to Have

• Background in cybersecurity or enterprise SaaS
• Familiarity with large-scale cloud-native system architecture (AWS / GCP / Azure)
• Experience leading cross-cultural or international teams
