PayPal is hiring a Software Engineer Intern to develop and improve software products and distributed systems supporting its payments businesses, including Venmo. The intern will design, implement, test, and deploy software, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help address production issues.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, debug, and maintain scalable front-end and/or back-end software using technologies such as Java, Python, Node.js, React, SQL, and REST APIs
- Write clean, maintainable code; develop and optimize databases; and ensure data integrity and system performance
- Follow software development life cycle (SDLC) processes, internal standards, coding conventions, and best practices while making technical decisions with appropriate guidance
- Collaborate with managers, project leads, peers, and cross-functional partners—including design, product, and other business teams—to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions
- Participate in code and design reviews and contribute to improving coding standards and development practices
Skills
- Exceptional technical talent, strong programming skills, and a keen desire to deeply understand our products and services
- Experience with at least one programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, JavaScript, or similar
- Familiarity with software development concepts, including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and debugging
- Experience developing projects through coursework, internships, research, or personal projects
- Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and analytical skills
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field at an accredited college or university
- Must be returning to school in Fall 2027
