Staff Data Scientist

PayPal is hiring a Staff Data Scientist for the Venmo Marketing Data Science team. The role leads paid marketing measurement and analytics, developing scalable frameworks to evaluate media effectiveness and translate findings into recommendations for optimizing marketing investments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage data science projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals
• Develop and maintain data models, algorithms, and reporting systems to support data analysis and decision-making
• Analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic initiatives
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and provide actionable insights
• Ensure data quality and integrity through regular audits and validation processes
• Mentor and guide junior data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement

Skills

• 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience
• Advanced proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis
• Strong experience with Python or R for statistical analysis, experimentation, causal inference, and predictive modeling
• Hands-on experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI for campaign performance tracking and visualization
• Deep understanding of paid media measurement, including attribution, incrementality testing, geo-experimentation, marketing mix modeling, and ROI optimization
• Experience measuring performance across major paid media platforms and channels
• Experience developing scalable marketing measurement frameworks, analytical tools, or solutions from the ground up
• Ability to translate complex analyses into clear insights and recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Strong communication and presentation skills, including experience influencing senior leaders and investment decisions
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to partner across Paid Media, Marketing Strategy, Finance, Product, Engineering, and Analytics teams
• Ability to independently lead complex analytical projects, identify measurement gaps, and recommend improvements to campaign and investment strategies
• Proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
