You will join a high-performing engineering team building GenAI-powered platforms and applications that enable innovation across Visa’s technology ecosystem.

The team focuses on:

• Developing intelligent, AI-driven applications powered by large language models
• Integrating generative AI capabilities into enterprise platforms and workflows
• Building scalable systems that combine AI, data, and distributed architectures
• Enabling automation, developer productivity, and intelligent decision-making

While these capabilities rely on strong data foundations, the primary focus is on applying AI and generative AI to solve real-world business problems at scale, with enterprise-grade security and reliability.

Job Summary:

Senior Data Engineers collaborate closely with product teams, business partners, and cybersecurity teams to define and deliver AI- and data-driven products and capabilities. In this role, you will help design and build scalable platforms that enable the adoption of generative AI across the organization.

You will play a key role in developing GenAI-powered applications and platforms, including integrating with leading large language models such as OpenAI and Anthropic, and enabling their safe, scalable, and efficient use in enterprise environments.

You will independently understand the broader data and AI ecosystem, including security, privacy, and governance requirements, and apply this knowledge to design robust and responsible solutions. You will contribute to technical designs, evaluate architectures and tools, and present scalable solutions to peers.

This role emphasizes building platforms and services that power AI and GenAI applications, while ensuring strong data foundations, system reliability, and enterprise-grade security.

Staying current with industry trends in AI, data engineering, and distributed systems, you will help drive innovation and continuously improve how technology is applied to solve complex business problems.

All roles require digital fluency, including hands-on experience or familiarity with Generative AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cline, Codex, and GitHub Copilot) to enhance developer productivity and enable intelligent engineering workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements for AI- and data-driven features and platforms
• Design and document scalable components that support AI/GenAI applications, APIs, and data workflows
• Develop high-quality, secure, and maintainable code following engineering best practices
• Build and enhance platform capabilities that integrate data, APIs, and AI models into production systems
• Develop and integrate applications with large language model providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic to deliver GenAI-powered solutions
• Design and implement prompt workflows, context handling, and orchestration patterns for GenAI use cases
• Contribute to code reviews, incorporate feedback, and take ownership of platform components or services
• Develop and maintain data pipelines, services, and orchestration workflows supporting AI use cases
• Implement validation, monitoring, and data quality checks to ensure system reliability and accuracy
• Apply security, privacy, and governance principles across data and AI systems
• Troubleshoot issues across distributed systems and improve system observability and resilience
• Build automation and tools to improve developer productivity, deployment efficiency, and platform operations
• Support platform maintenance, upgrades, and security remediation activities

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 2+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of relevant work experience
• Strong core programming skills in Java, Python, or similar languages
• Experience building and operating microservices-based architectures and APIs
• Experience working with real-time data streaming or event-driven systems
• Experience working with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and define technical solutions
• Experience designing and documenting technical components for data platforms, services, or applications
• Experience writing production-grade code and applying coding standards, security practices, and testing methodologies
• Experience conducting unit testing and participating in integration or user acceptance testing
• Experience building automation tools and frameworks supporting data processing or application workflows
• Experience working with data extraction, transformation, and querying techniques across large datasets
• Experience ensuring system reliability through data quality validation, monitoring, and performance tuning
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues in distributed systems, data pipelines, or backend services
• Experience supporting production systems, including software upgrades, maintenance, and security remediation

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years with an advanced degree
• Experience working with Generative AI systems, including integrating large language models into applications
• Hands-on experience building applications using LLM providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar platforms
• Familiarity with modern GenAI development practices, including prompt design, context management, and orchestration patterns
• Experience with backend platforms, APIs, and microservices architectures supporting AI-driven applications
• Experience with streaming frameworks (Kafka)
• Experience presenting technical designs and solutions to engineering peers
• Experience staying current with emerging trends in AI, GenAI, and distributed systems, and applying them to real-world use cases
• Experience participating in code reviews and mentoring engineers on best practices
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Software Engineering:

• Strong programming ability in one or more languages such as:

• Experience building backend services, APIs, data pipelines, integrations, or cloud-native applications.
• Familiarity with web applications, distributed systems, databases, CI/CD pipelines, logging, monitoring, and automated testing.

• Experience participating in design reviews, code reviews, and production troubleshooting.
