Senior Database Administrator - PostgreSQL

Walker Digital Table Systems (WDTS) is seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Developer and Administrator to join the Platform Engineering Database Team. This role is responsible for developing, administering, and supporting mission-critical PostgreSQL databases running in high-availability clustered production environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in database development, performance tuning, replication, backup and recovery, production support, and reporting solutions to ensure the reliability, scalability, and availability of our Perfect Pay platform.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain SQL, PL/pgSQL, triggers, and views and optimize complex database queries.
• Administer and support high-availability PostgreSQL production environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and uptime.
• Manage PostgreSQL replication, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and database health monitoring.
• Design, develop, and maintain JasperReports for operational, business, and regulatory reporting.
• Support both transactional (OLTP) and reporting database workloads while ensuring optimal performance and workload isolation.
• Develop Shell and Python scripts to automate database administration, monitoring, report scheduling, backup validation, and operational tasks.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues, production incidents, and reporting problems, ensuring timely resolution.
• Collaborate with Development, DevOps, and Platform Engineering teams to support database deployments and operational excellence.
• Maintain database documentation and operational procedures and support continuous improvement through automation and best practices.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
• 6-7 years of experience in PostgreSQL database administration and development.
• Strong experience managing high-availability PostgreSQL clustered production environments.
• Expertise in SQL, PL/pgSQL, query optimization, replication, pgBackRest, and Pgpool-II/PgBouncer.
• Experience with JasperReports, Shell/Python scripting, and Linux (RHEL/Rocky).
• Solid understanding of OLTP systems, reporting databases, backup and recovery, and production support.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with GitHub, Jenkins, and CI/CD-based database deployment processes.
• Knowledge of Liquibase or Flyway for database version control.
• Exposure to Kafka, HashiCorp Vault, and cloud-based PostgreSQL platforms.
• Experience implementing database automation, monitoring, and operational best practices.
