Role summary:The Director of Software Engineering will lead the Data Ventures L2/SRE organization, transforming reactive production support into a proactive, engineering-led reliability function. This leader will define the reliability strategy across Data Ventures, establishing standards for observability, SLOs/SLAs, incident management, automation, and operational excellence. The role will partner with engineering and product teams to improve system reliability, reduce operational toil and recurring issues, and leverage AI-driven automation to modernize operations while building a high-performing SRE organization focused on ownership, scalability, continuous improvement, and customer experience.
About the team:
The Data Ventures SRE/L2 team is transforming from a traditional, reactive L2 support function into an engineering-led reliability organization. Our vision is to build a modern SRE/L2 model that combines strong customer and production support with proactive reliability engineering, observability, automation, and toil reduction. The team partners closely with engineering teams to resolve production issues while identifying systemic improvements that prevent recurrence. By leveraging AI-driven operations, self-service, and standardized reliability practices, we aim to reduce manual support, improve operational efficiency, and create a more resilient and scalable Data Ventures ecosystem.
What you'll do:
- Lead the transformation of Data Ventures L2 support into an engineering-led SRE/L2 organization.
- Define reliability standards across SLOs/SLAs, observability, incident management, alerting, and production readiness.
- Modernize operations through AI-assisted triage, automation, self-service, and systematic toil reduction.
- Partner with engineering teams to strengthen production ownership, eliminate recurring issues, and improve system reliability.
- Establish measurable reliability and operational KPIs to drive continuous improvement.
- Build and develop a high-performing SRE team with strong technical expertise and customer focus.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives to improve platform resilience, scalability, performance, and operational excellence.
What you'll bring:
- Proven engineering leadership experience building and leading high-performing SRE, production engineering, or platform teams.
- Deep understanding of reliability engineering, SLOs/SLAs, observability, incident management, resiliency, and production operations.
- Experience transforming reactive support models into proactive, automation-driven SRE practices.
- Strong expertise in DevOps, cloud platforms, monitoring, automation, and operational excellence.
- Ability to leverage AI and automation to improve triage, remediation, self-service, and reduce operational toil.
- Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management across engineering, product, and business teams.
- Demonstrated ability to develop engineering talent and foster accountability, customer focus, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735: The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00
Sunnyvale, California US-11657: The annual salary range for this position is $169,000.00 - $338,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...
