Job Title: Communications Officer

Base: Beirut or Tripoli with field visits

General Objective of the Job: Communications Officer

- The Communication Officer is responsible for coordinating and facilitating the development of communication plans for WC Lebanon following global guidelines, internally and externally.

- S/he works on guarding, elevating, growing and disseminating the brand of War Child and helps strengthen it and contributes to increase brand awareness and make it top of mind awareness in Lebanon and the region (in cooperation with the regional team).

- S/he is an expert in the use of the most optimal communication tools and strategies in order to reach external target audiences in the best possible way.

- S/he supports all departments across the organization to ensure that all communications enhance and do not negatively affect the reputation of WC or the communities we work with.

- S/he contributes to building the communication-related competencies of WC staff and partners including gathering content.

Position within the Organization

The Communication Officer reports directly to the Country Director. S/he looks after in-country communications and works closely with the CD on setting priorities and communication plans. The Communication Officer works closely with project managers, the technical team, MEAL, the regional and global communication teams, as well as partner organizations and preferred suppliers (i.e. print shops, graphic designers and the production house). S/he represents War Child Lebanon in internal and external events and fora.

Detailed Job Description / Results Areas

1. Communication Advice

1. Supports the WC departments in their needs for communication

2. Supports team(s) in giving them proactive advice and support on how to improve their communications; both internally and externally.

3. Translates the communication strategy based on WC regional and global guidelines into communication plans for the Lebanon team(s) adapted to the local context

Result: The communication strategy is created, adapted, and translated into communication plans as per the requirements of each project - which are in turn executed in such a way to contribute to the overall communication function, awareness raising, and positive reputation management, reflecting the direction and strategy of the organization.

2. Coordination/Limited Management Role

1. Coordinates the full communication process from briefing to content creation, to distribution strategy

2. Lends support and provides input on the development and optimization of communication plans taking into account the requirements of each project.

3. Ensures that communications and visibility requirements are kept in all communication materials.

4. Ensures that safeguarding and PSEAH principles are adhered to at all times.

5. Stays abreast on trends, technologies and developments in the field of humanitarian communications.

6. Manage the production pipeline (production house briefing, scheduling of shoots, creation of storyboards and scripts, coordination with partners, and similar tasks).

Result: Communication processes are effectively coordinated end-to-end; from briefing and planning to content production and distribution; ensuring timely delivery, and compliance.

3. Multimedia Production & Content Creation

1. With the help of designers and the production house, assist in the production (filming and editing) of communication materials to satisfy the visibility requirements under each project.

2. Manages WC Lebanon social media accounts: Instagram for now; possibly other channels down the road with the aim to increase the reach of War Child.

3. Proactively coordinates with WC staff, partners, and the sector to create content around international days, special occasions, and observances.

Result: High-quality, project-compliant multimedia content is produced and disseminated in collaboration with designers and production partners, strengthening project visibility and engagement while ensuring consistent and effective management of WC Lebanon’s social media presence.

4. Information Sharing & Data Storage & Production

1. S/he conducts capacity strengthening sessions for both internal staff and partners.

2. Acts as a Officer / spokesperson for WC (alongside CMT) during visits.

3. Fields requests from the media corps (including journalists), researchers, and other miscellaneous inquiries,

4. Collaborates with the ICT Coordinator on finding the best way to upload and store information securely using best in class digital platforms.

5. S/he ensures that WC Child Safety and Safeguarding Policies are well communicated to participants and field staff - specifically in the context of content gathering.

Result: Internal and partner capacity on communications, safeguarding in development communication, and content production is strengthened, information requests are effectively managed, and communication assets are securely stored and accessible, ensuring ethical content gathering, informed representation, and coordinated external engagement.

5. Advocacy & Fundraising

1. Build the advocacy and fundraising functions of War Child Lebanon through proactively suggesting ways the country office can capitalize on its staff expertise, resources and the local context to produce accurate and relevant advocacy messages as well as fundraising leads.

Result: Advocacy and fundraising efforts are reinforced through the development of accurate, context-relevant messaging and opportunities, leveraging staff expertise, program insights, and local realities to support resource mobilisation and policy influence objectives.

6. Miscellaneous

1. Support in miscellaneous ad hoc tasks falling under the communication department.

Result: Ad hoc communication needs are efficiently supported, ensuring continuity, responsiveness, timeliness, and effective functioning of the communication department across evolving priorities.

Your profile

Education level:

Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree is an asset) in communications, journalism, marketing, social sciences, or similar.

Education field:

Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Research, Economics, Statistics, Public Health, Education, Youth, Mental Health, or closely related fields.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 4years of progressive experience in communications, media, public relations, or strategic communications, preferably within humanitarian, development, or non-profit contexts.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, guidelines, and plans, aligned with organisational, regional, and global frameworks and adapted to local contexts.
  • Demonstrated expertise in brand management, reputation management, and external communications, including digital and social media platforms.
  • Strong experience coordinating end-to-end communication processes, from briefing and content development to dissemination and visibility compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with multimedia production, including coordination of filming, editing, storytelling, and collaboration with designers and production houses.
  • Solid understanding of humanitarian communication principles, including safeguarding, PSEAH, ethical storytelling, JEDI principles, and responsible representation of children and communities.
  • Experience working in complex or conflict-affected settings, with the ability to navigate sensitive narratives and reputational risk.
  • Proven ability to build communication capacity of staff and partners through training, coaching, and technical support.
  • Experience liaising with media, journalists, researchers, partners, and service providers, and representing organisations in internal and external fora.
  • Strong coordination skills, with experience working cross-functionally with programme teams, MEAL, senior management, and regional/global communications units.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate technical and programme information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strategic, analytical, and creative thinker with strong problem-solving and advisory skills.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic (written and spoken). Proficiency in French or Dutch is a plus.
  • Adaptability to different contexts and cultures.
