We are looking for engineers who take pride in building robust, predictable and thoughtfully designed systems, and who understand that in financial systems, small mistakes can have large consequences. Prior experience in fintech or in systems involving payments, transactions, or financial workflows is strongly preferred. We also look for strong engineering fundamentals, high attention to detail, and the ability to operate in environments where correctness and reliability are critical.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain backend systems that power core WazirX products.
- Write production-grade code with a strong emphasis on correctness, edge cases, and failure handling.
- Own features end-to-end, from design and implementation to testing, deployment and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with product, QA, infra, and security teams to ensure reliable releases.
- Review code with a focus on long-term maintainability and risk reduction.
- Proactively identify and mitigate potential issues before they impact users or funds.
- Continuously improve system reliability, performance and observability.
Requirements:
- BE or BTech or equivalent in a relevant technical field.
- 5 to 8 years of strong hands-on backend development experience.
- Strong backend engineering expertise in at least one modern programming language.
- Experience with MySQL and database systems, including relational and non-relational databases.
- Hands-on experience with Docker.
- Experience with Golang is a bonus.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and experience with production deployments is a plus.
- Experience writing and maintaining test cases for backend systems and APIs.
- Experience in threat modelling and security architecture design and review.
- These are non-negotiable qualities, regardless of domain background:
- Strong software engineering fundamentals (data structures, concurrency, system design, debugging).
- Proven experience building and operating production systems where correctness matters.
- Close attention to detail and a bias towards defensive programming.
Comfortable working in environments where:
- Bugs can lead to monetary loss, significant user impact, or regulatory risk.
- Changes must be carefully reasoned, tested, and reviewed.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability for what you ship.
- Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly and make sound technical decisions.
Relevant Backgrounds:
Candidates with experience in any of the following environments are likely to succeed in this role:
- Fintech, banking, payments, trading platforms, or exchanges.
- E-commerce or marketplaces handling high-volume financial transactions and reconciliations.
- Distributed systems or backend platforms with strict SLAs and uptime requirements.
- Billing, accounting, settlement, or ledger-based systems.
- Infrastructure or data platforms where production issues had direct customer or revenue impact.
- Telecom, ad-tech, or enterprise systems involving usage-based billing or financial correctness.
- If you've worked on systems where production bugs could lead to monetary loss, customer impact, or compliance risk, your experience is highly relevant, regardless of industry.
Crypto and Blockchain (Good to Have, Not Mandatory):
- Understanding of cryptocurrency ecosystems and blockchain fundamentals is a plus.
- Prior experience with exchanges, wallets, custody, or Web3 systems is helpful but not required.
- What matters more is the ability and willingness to learn the domain deeply and responsibly.
