Principal Engineer-Consumer Technology

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to join Retail Services Consumer Lending Technology team. As part of the Retail Services Consumer Lending Technology team, this Principal Engineer will lead the innovative end-to-end technology solution delivery for Retail Services product capabilities across merchant onboarding and servicing and origination and servicing of unsecured lending products. They will have focused product knowledge with strong hands-on technical expertise to lead the solution delivery for Retail Services products and services offered by Wells Fargo. They will participate in agile ceremonies like big room planning, reviewing, and analyzing complex strategies for product functionality, feature delivery and priority, making architecture decisions, strategically collaborating with product teams and stakeholders defining product delivery roadmaps, directing scrum teams based on business value delivery, providing consistent architecture guidance, extensive code reviews, guiding development teams with the day to day delivery task and collaborating with scrum teams in producing results, conducting Proof of concepts with latest technologies and enabling innovation by demonstrating thought leadership.

In this role, you will:

• Define and drive the enterprise engineering strategy, architecture standards, and technology roadmap for complex business requirements
• Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
• Architect enterprise-grade technology solutions
• Drive modernization initiatives involving platform consolidation, legacy data platform transformation and use of AI tools and technologies
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
• Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
• Mentor senior engineers, technical leads, and solution architects while promoting engineering excellence and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with production support and reliability engineering teams to drive root cause analysis and platform stability improvements.
• Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
• Partner closely with product and program leadership teams to ensure technology implementation and delivery are aligned with business goals and timelines

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with Java and related technologies, including frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices, and enterprise application development.

Desired Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in Java 17+, Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Security, Spring Cloud,REST APIs, Resource Oriented Architecture and Microservices Architecture
• 7+ years of experience with React, Node and similar user interface build technologies
• 5+ years experience with enterprise software design patterns with special emphasis on patterns applicable to microservices and micro frontend architecture
• 5+ years of data modelling experience for no sql databases like mongo db for enterprise grade solutions
• 5+ years of database experience with Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server, and relational database design
• 5+ years of SQL development and performance tuning skills
• 3+ years with data transmission middleware like Kafka or Rabbit MQ
• 2+ years of AI tools and technology usage experience to build enterprise grade software solutions
• 2+ years of experience working in Agile environments
• 2+ years experience of using build and software code quality analysis tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Maven, Gradle, and SonarQube
• Experience with AWS, Azure, OCP or Google Cloud Platform services
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift
• Knowledge of Ansible, Shell Scripting, F5, AVI, and infrastructure automation
• Experience deploying applications on Tomcat, JBoss, and WebSphere
• Strong understanding of MVC architecture, J2EE design patterns, and enterprise application design
• Cloud-native application modernization and migration initiatives
• Enterprise data engineering and analytics platforms
• AI-driven automation and intelligent workflow implementations
• Financial services or large-scale enterprise technology environments
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced Agile environment
• Passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional and technical teams to drive the solution engineering decisions
• Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
