Senior Platform Engineer - Java

Wissen Technology is looking for a highly experienced Senior Java Platform Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance platform services that power mission-critical financial applications. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in core Java, platform engineering, and REST API development and extensive experience working within the financial services domain.

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Platform Design and Development:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance, and reliable platform services using Core Java.
• Build, integrate, and support RESTful APIs and web services.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable code.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and platform design initiatives.

Performance and Platform Engineering:

• Optimise application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
• Ensure platform security, availability, and operational excellence.
• Implement best practices for concurrency, multithreading, memory management, and performance tuning.

Data Management:

• Work with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Design efficient data access and persistence strategies.
• Apply strong data modelling principles and database optimisation techniques.

Financial Services Domain:

• Develop solutions aligned with financial industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Leverage a strong understanding of financial systems, products, and workflows.
• Ensure secure handling of sensitive financial data while maintaining compliance.

Automation and Workflow Management:

• Utilise Python for scripting, automation, and operational tasks.
• Work with Apache Airflow (or similar workflow orchestration tools) to schedule and manage data pipelines.

Collaboration and Leadership:

• Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA engineers, and cross-functional development teams.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the team's technical growth.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience in Core Java development.
• Strong experience building and maintaining enterprise-scale platform services.
• Expertise in Object-Orientated Programming (OOP), design patterns, and software engineering principles.
• Proven experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Deep understanding of concurrency, multithreading, memory management, and performance optimisation.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Significant experience within the financial services industry.
• Exposure to Python scripting and automation.
• Experience with Apache Airflow or similar workflow management tools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Understanding of financial regulations, governance, and compliance requirements.
