  • Undertake and guide emissions inventories and dispersion modelling assessments using tools such as AERMOD and CALPUFF, ensuring appropriate methodology, model inputs, assumptions and interpretation of results.

  • Analyze meteorological and ambient air quality data to characterize baseline conditions, assess impacts, and develop practical monitoring and mitigation recommendations.

  • Prepare and review technical reports, air permit applications, regulatory submissions, and air quality monitoring and management plans, coordinating with field specialists to align monitoring programs, data quality objectives and reporting requirements.

  • Manage projects from proposal through closeout, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, progress reporting, invoicing, financial performance, and proactive management of scope, budget or schedule changes.

  • Provide technical guidance, peer review and QA/QC oversight, supporting defensible assessments, clear documentation and consistent technical excellence.

  • Build and maintain client relationships by understanding client priorities and providing practical advice that supports operational, regulatory and environmental objectives.

  • Contribute to business development and lead proposal preparation by identifying opportunities, developing technical approaches, and estimating project effort and resource requirements.

  • Mentor junior and intermediate team members while collaborating across WSP’s technical teams to support knowledge sharing, technical development, and improved modelling, reporting and review processes.

  • Uphold WSP’s safety culture and Life Saving Rules, including during occasional site visits, client meetings and field program support.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, environmental engineering, or a related engineering discipline; a relevant graduate degree is an asset.

  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

  • Demonstrated expertise in air quality consulting, including dispersion modelling, emissions inventories, air permitting, environmental impact assessment, regulatory reporting, and monitoring program design and interpretation.

  • Practical experience applying AERMOD and/or CALPUFF, including preparing or reviewing model inputs, evaluating results, and communicating assessment implications and limitations.

  • Experience interpreting and applying air quality regulations, assessment guidelines and permitting requirements; direct experience with British Columbia and Metro Vancouver requirements is a strong asset.

  • Proven ability to manage projects or major technical work packages, coordinate contributors, and deliver high-quality work within budget and schedule constraints.

  • Strong technical writing, communication, analytical and data-management skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with GIS, Python, R, Linux, or similar analytical tools is an asset.

  • Experience developing client relationships, contributing to proposals and business development, and mentoring developing professionals through technical review, coaching and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
