Does This Sound Like You?
You are an engineer with a pragmatic attitude. You feel the weight of responsibility that comes with taking systems into production. You easily switch between scripting and structured programming in typed languages. You understand cloud, provisioning, and automation and are eager to learn more and build robust systems next to our experienced team!
The Xebia Data Division
Xebia Data is one of the divisions of Xebia Netherlands, renowned for its expertise in building strong Data and AI practices that deliver value to our clients. In the past, our team has predicted daily bread demand for millions of loaves, built advanced energy-saving algorithms at a national scale, and established data innovation labs at large multinational companies!
You’ll work with the sharpest data professionals in Europe, people who are not only technically brilliant but also generous with their knowledge. We enjoy the benefits of being part of a large organization while maintaining the energetic atmosphere of a scale-up. Our commitment to our community is strong; we are deeply rooted in the local landscape.
What You’ll Be Doing To Make Organizations Data-Driven
As a data engineer, you are responsible for the implementation of the foundations of data-intensive systems. You develop enabling infrastructure to store, transform and process data at scale and in the cloud. You make sure that data is stored safely and securely using the technology that you see fit for the job.
With your knowledge of software engineering, cloud, clusters, queues, containers, streaming, or graphs, you work on the backbone of the data infrastructure. There is a lot of data to store, many jobs to run and schedule, and much configuration to be dealt with. You work with the client in teams that are a mix of people from Xebia and the client, and pick up work related to the backbone on which the team is building.
Your communication skills matter as much as your technical skills. You explain your design choices, align team members, and help client teams make confident and informed decisions about their data landscape. You will be surrounded by experts from diverse fields, learn from different environments and industries, and have the perfect environment to shine as a data professional. Not always easy, but always rewarding.
Stuck on a tough problem at a client? At Xebia we work as a team and we've got your back. Everyone is just a message away and ready to help! We say People First, and we mean it.
What is the Cross-Skilling Program about?
This program is designed for people with professional experience in data or related technical fields, particularly those familiar with modern tech stacks in data and/or software development.Over the first month, you’ll dive into the essential tech fundamentals in data and start your journey as a consultant for our clients in your second month. In the first year, you will be working on a long-term project with one of our clients, so not a sprint, but a genuine partnership to apply all the knowledge learned. Then you will be working on projects of varying lengths, tech stacks, and levels of complexity. You’ll have our experienced team by your side to support you the whole way!

Who Are We Looking For?
The Cross-Skilling program is designed for candidates with experience in data engineering or software engineering who are eager to enhance their technical skills and focus on data. You'll have the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues and take your career to the next level!
The Data Engineer position plays a central role in our clients' teams; therefore, we require approximately 2 years of relevant professional experience in data engineering or a related field, such as software engineering or DevOps.
Technical skills matter, but so does the culture we create together. We’re looking for like-minded people who genuinely enjoy taking ownership, sharing knowledge, and contributing in an environment where everyone can feel welcome, included, and supported. Our ideal candidates are those who embrace this philosophy and love for data!
The program kicks off in March 2027 with 2 weeks of training led by our team to help you level up your technical skills. After that, you’ll dive right into client projects with the support of the Xebia Data team!
Please note:
This role is open only to candidates based in the Netherlands. Having Dutch professional-level proficiency is also required.
If you already have ample experience in data engineering, consider our regular data engineering role.
