Overview
GitLab is a company founded in 2011 around an open source alternative to GitHub that grew into a single application covering the whole software delivery lifecycle. Its platform combines source control, code review, continuous integration and deployment, package registries, security scanning and project planning in one product rather than a set of integrated tools, which appeals to organisations wanting fewer vendors in the toolchain. Listed on Nasdaq since 2021, the company is known for operating with no offices at all and for publishing an unusually detailed public handbook describing how it runs itself.
